Exercise and calories eaten

Most days I eat all of my normal meals and hit 1200 calories as guided to by my fitness pal. I then go for a walk in the evening and burn maybe three hundred calories (according to runtastic) and then I complete my food diary for the day. When I send off the results it tells me that I am not getting enough food and that I may go into starvation mode. So even though I'm not feeling hungry I eat some more to make it up to 1200... Is that right?

I thought MFP only chided you when you ate lower than 1200, not when you net lower?

The only people that should be eating lower than 1200 to lose weight are particularly short females.

Guess what... I am a particularly short female! ;)

So does that mean I can eat to 1200 and then exercise and then not eat the rest of the calories? Unless I want to? As long as I am getting all of my nutrients?

1200 isn't a universally recognised number and isn't personal to your situation.

If you eat 1200 calories and do 300 cals of exercise on top of a sedentary 1600 TDEE you have a 700 calorie deficit, which is quite high but I guessed the 1600. If you ate 1400 the deficit would be 500 which is MFP's recommended target deficit. Try that.

Thank you. Will try that. Now, what is a TDEE?

    Total Daily Energy Expenditure

...but eating that little usually ends with you going on a crazy binge eventually.

Apparently I have a TDEE of 1870 and I'm eating around about 1400 calories a day. Hmmm... does this mean I should be losing weight already without exercise? *confused*
