How do you keep on trucking?

What do you when you feel discouraged? What has helped you get over those hurdles or past those "woe is me, why bother?" days?

I am feeling a little discouraged this week. I am not here to gather sympathy responses or have a pity party; I just am curious how others deal with it.

I usually feel most discouraged when I'm making a change or encounter a situation I'm not prepared for. So, I've learned to take a deep breath and a step back. Give myself some sympathy and patience. And then I figure out a strategy to deal with whatever I'm dealing with. A lot of time it's just recognizing that this isn't easy and providing myself the support I need.

Feeling sorry for myself, or quitting aren't going to get me my results. So I look in the mirror, flex a few times and get er done

"When you're climbing stairs and you miss a step, do you pick yourself up and keep climbing, or do you kick up a fit and throw yourself back down?"

I know it's a little trite, but that quote, plus the fact that I need to get into a friggin' bridemaid's dress by October, is keeping me on the right path.

I've been on MFP for two years. I lost about 50 lbs in six months, maintained it for ten months, then was in the hospital and gained back about 15 lbs. I've lost 10 of that back, so I'm down about 45 lbs total now.

Put your weight loss in perspective, if it is 5 lbs or 50 lbs, then go find something that same size and say "this is how much weight I've lost." How I do this is to go to Lowe's and find a brick or a paving stone equal to that weight and pick it up. Lowe's has the weights of their bricks/stones on the displays. Another way to do this is find common objects - a gallon of water is 8 lbs. A bag of play sand is 50 lbs. Go to the exercise section and find a dumbell - whatever it takes to put your weight loss in perspective.

Use that as motivation to go towards your next or ultimate goal.
