I buy it at the health food store and some grocery stores. It is also called Food Yeast sometimes. I make a vegan italian wedding soup and use the nutritional yeast instead of parmesan cheese.

Does it really taste like cheese?

I was very skeptical of nutritional yeast at first. But I bought some to try and I love it. If you mix it with ground Almonds you get a delicous parmasean like mix that you can put on popcorn or pasta.

I like to steam veggies ( asparagus, beans, brussel sprouts) use a little oil or butter and shake the mix on top and it makes an awesome cheese sauce. I really think it taste like cheese.

I do find however if you eat copious amounts of it there is a "minerally??" aftertaste to it. Not a bad taste but not a taste you would get with real cheese. :)

I use it ALL the time now. Just experiment use a little bit and see what you like it with.

That all sounds just so tasty :) I love cheese that's the problem I am not suppose to eat it. I am trying but its hard to be able to eat something your whole life without issue then to be told it has to go. ( docs orders )

I get mine online (usually Amazon) and use it all the time! Love making Vegan Queso (add almond milk and chickpea flour and salsa), sprinkling it on baked potatoes, and in soups.

At first I wasn't crazy about it but now I love it. It's not super cheesy but I never liked cheese.

Nutritional yeast is great! I use it anywhere I want a sprinkle of cheesiness.

If you're up for a bit of experimentation, there's a great book called Artisan Vegan Cheeses that has recipes for making all different types of "cheese."

I just bought 1 lb. of it from nuts.com but haven't used it yet. I read it's great on pastas and salads. Can't wait to try it on popcorn!

Nooch Nachos! A VERY easy, quick & cheesy queso sauce (or dip):

    1) Mix 1 cup nutritional yeast with 3 TBSP of cornstarch (or any kind of flour), 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp cumin.
    2) Add 1 cup of water and stir slowly over medium-high heat until 'cheese' thickens (don't stop stirring, it will stick)
    3) Reduce to low and add 1 cup salsa, stir in until heated through.

Dip in chips, pour over potatoes or veggies, anything! Chill leftovers and stir in 1 tbsp of water before reheating.
