So a "creeper" is just a wierdo. That seems like a very subjective anyalysis. I am honestly curios what this term means. I like to be supportive to my friends so i am one to look at food diary's and read profile pages. I heard one individuel claim that this type of behavior was creeping but i don't see how this would be the case. I was just wondering what others felt about this.0

A creeper!? To me a creeper is a pixelated green thing the explodes when its near.0

And to the OP. Creeper is subject to whoever uses it. In example to me a creeper is someone who acts creepy, or starts a thread that's obviously looking to get certain comments especially gender specific. Or that weirdo gaping at me in the grocery store while I just want to shop for groceries.0 -
a creeper is someone that is acting weird, that you would not do
if you would do them, that's called something different
we call those people interesting0 -

Why would gender specific threads be creeping? Ladies post about issues relevant only to women all the time and men do the same. That is not weird. I guess i just don' t get it.
Besides, starting a thread to start a specific banter is "trolling". Not necessarily being creepy, of course that is subjective and you have examples in our mind that i nothing about. However just because a person is "trolling" does not automatically mean they should be considered creepy. Trolling can be done in boredom. It is humorous to see how easily people can be provoked or how accurately one can be when expecting certain groups to react in certain ways.0 -
Since its open to personal interpretation I do not see why you feel its necessary to question my own personal interpretation. Speaking of trolling.0

You are correct, however my original post was in fact questioning to others views on "creeping". That is the whole premise of my question. I am trying to understand why some people would see perfectly normal behaviors as crepping. Hence my asking you for further clarification on your viewpoint and giving my reasoning for asking for the clarification.0 -
Why do I have to have a reason? Maybe I myself am in fact, trolling.0

A creeper is just that! A creepy person! e.g. Someone on my friends list (who I obviously won't name) recently posted about a guy who asked her if she has a picture of her in a bikini. Now that's a creeper. She blocked him, which was a good move. Also there are a lot of very young ladies on MFP who're still in their late teens. If you're a guy in your thirties you're effectively old enough to be their father. Now if you go on their profile or comment on their statuses and make sexually suggestive commens, that for most people, including myself would be creeping.
I think I may have once been guilty of creeping too. When I was still new on MFP looking for friends, I sent one lady a FR. I'd seen her one of the forums where the topic was about women with large calves and she was one of those who replied saying she also has large muscular calves. Now being the idiot I sometimes am, I didn't think before I spoke. When I friended her, the message I wrote with the FR included me telling her that I find muscular calves on a woman attractive. Let's just say she didn't like it one bit and made it very clear to me that she didn't like it. That being said, she never did add me. Of course, I didn't think it was creeping at the time (I took it as just a harmless compliment) but when I look back at it, I now realise that it was indeed highly inappropriate and as we say here on my MFP, very creepy. I certainly learned my lesson and I'm now more careful with what I say when I comment on my female friends' profiles and statuses.0 -

AWWW.......Well, i suppose that would clarify. Had i been able to decipher that myself i would not have needed to ask my original question in the first place. I suppose i need to try and be more subjective and less analytical.0 -
Someone who follows you around the forums watching every post you make, then invifilitrates your friends friend's list in order for a higher success rate when they friend request you so they can get to your other pictures.
Or they could just be someone who sends a random message along the lines of " wow you have really abs/ random body part... oh the things I would do"... etc0 -

I too thought the same thing ha ha ha and they really are quite annoying0 -

I am learning through these replies that "creeping" is very subjective. That there is really no clear definition and that just about anything could be considered "creeping".
I started this thread because a friend of mine on here was deleted from a friends list for being a creeper and told that it was because they looked at pics when not asked. I felt this to be an inaccurate definition and was wondering what others thought. Clearly that individual felt it was creepy but i don't see how looking at pics of someone they post on a public wall where we try to get to know each other so we can be supportive is creepy. However, as i said, i am seeing now just how subjective and random this term really is.0 -

I would define that as "stalking". However creepy would do just fine.0 -
A creeper is usually someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. They might stare at you. They might make weird, usually sexual, comments. They may not even do anything odd but their presence alone is enough to make your skin crawl. Stalking is a creeper behaviour, but not all creepers are stalkers.
At my house, we've also used the word creeping to describe that irritating wheedling that kids sometimes do. You know? Like making a cup of tea and going, "Muuuuum? You know you love me?" You know they're only being so nice 'cause they're after something. Alert! Alert!0 -
I am finding in today's society a lot of people are damned if they do and damned if they don't...
You are creepy cos you made the wrong type of compliment...
you're a weirdo cos you don't say much...
basically every action a person does there is a derogatory comment for it...
you just have to be with the "in crowd" to get it right otherwise someone will find something to criticise you for...
just be yourself and treat people the way you want to be treat that way if you do your best nobody can say you didn't try hard...0 -
These are creepers :laugh:0 -
Someone who crosses boundaries. These can be explicitly stated personal boundaries or boundaries that are implied based on normal appropriate social behavior.0

I would say that this is most clear definition i have seen thus far. However the term "normal appropriate social behavior" is where the gray comes in. Normal as you stated is not the same for others as it is for us. Many people tend to see the world through a lens of their own life and their own societal influence. It is actually very common for people to close themselves off from others viewpoints because they believe that their "normal" is what everyone else’s "normal" is. This is a very common subject in sociology studies. That is why i was asking so i could get a larger pool of different thoughts on the matter and perhaps expand my own viewpoint on the definition of the term "creeper".0 -
My view of a creeper is someone who writes and tells you that you look fantastic and then proceeds to send you weird flirty messages and soon after you stop talking to them.....and months later they start up again because they didn't recognize you or forgot who you were.0
-
at least you made it clear that it was your view.0
-
I am trying to understand why some people would see perfectly normal behaviors as creeping.
Because some people are more paranoid than others.
Creeping is the type of behaviour that if they find you attractive they will call it flirting, but if they disapprove of your appearance it will be called creeping.0 -
that works0

You look fantastic! No, wait!

Oh dang it! From these definitions I may be a creeper, possibly a stalker, and at times a troll. LOL
x sigh x
Apologies to all the half naked people that I found attractive and offended by complimenting. ;p0 -
i forgive you0
