Had below my right shin removed when I was 8 from a deformation.
I DO have a prosthetic.
What kinds of workouts would be beneficial to me? What kind of workouts should I stay away from?

With the right prosthetic you can do pretty much anything that you want to - if you've ever had the chance to watch some of the Paralympics events you would be amazed.
I would hazard a guess that there may be some weight lifting movements that you'd want to avoid, my best suggestion would be to see if you cold find a trainer locally who is experienced in working with amputees.
The biggest question is probably what you think you'd enjoy doing!0 -
Does your prosthetic limit your range of motion? Do you have any issues with high impact activities, like jogging?0

This guy lost both his legs and manages to do pretty much anything and everything.0 -
Have you thought about cycling? It's really good on the body and joints. I've discovered it and it's one of the best things that has ever happened to me.0

You could see if there are any adaptive sports near you! There are usually physical therapists and other rehab professionals and coaches with lots of experience in this field. Even if you don't want to do a full organized sports program, they'd be the right people to ask.0

One of the guys in P90X Plyometrics is an amputee with a prosthetic. I believe that the only move that he alters is a one-footed move.
Good luck with your fitness goals!0 -
Have you tried aqua aerobics, or cycling maybe a rebumbant bike would work better have you looked up workouts on youtube for amputees, I am sure they would have some0

I used to work at Walter Reed Hospital and saw many amputee vets using the Wii fit and Wii boxing.0

I did a 520km 24hr endurance cycle (medical fundraiser event) with a team of people and one guy was an amputee, with a leg removed below the kneee. He was almost an elite athlete.
If I were you, I would be getting advice from your specialist doctors about the type of activity that is appropriate for your particular prosthetic. There should be plenty of material out there on exercise regimes for amputees but it may not be as readily accessible as it is for non-amputees. Your doctor/hospital unit would be the first place I would consult and following that I would get in touch with your country's para-olympic organization or any other association or support network for amputees.
kind regards,
Ben0
