Can stress really add pounds? Ive been counting calories for a couple of years now and lost some weight, but recently, my husband lost his job. This is very stressful to me. I have also gained 10 - 12 pounds recently. I know I do cheat once in a while, but not enought for weight gain, I don't think. I'm trying to pin point the cause of the weight gain....it's very frustrating because I do watch what I eat. I guess I need to stop all occasional cheating and get to the gym more. I was just wondering if anything like this has ever
happened to anyone else. I'd love to hear your story.
Thanks.....

Yes, stress releases cortisol, which is an hormone that can have multiple effects on your body.
However, having saying that, you also mentioned the "occasional cheating" and that you don't "think" it's that much.
Without logging your calories properly (weighing and mesuring every single thing), you'll never know if you overeat. Lots of food contain more calories than we think.0 -
I know stress leads me to 'mindless eating' at times.0

I have a highly stressful job and although I won't go as far as saying stress makes me gain weight it does make it more difficult for me to lose it. Also when I get really stressed it makes me unhappy which in turn makes me want to do things not conducive to weight loss (eat the wrong things, eat too much, sleep too much and not go to the gym). Just try to stay focused on what has worked for you in the past, you may find you're not losing as quickly as before but you are doing the right thing for your body.0
