Why a banana before a workout?

I've seen so many comments about people eating a banana 30-60 minutes prior to a workout. I'm just wondering what makes this the go-to snack.

Bananas are high in potassium -- which can prevent cramping. Also, they are a good source of carbohydrate for energy before a workout!

High carbs and sugars (natural fruit sugar) to give you energy for workout
High postassium to avoid cramping and muscle spasms during your workout

Because I wanted more carbs before workouts, and a banana tastes good.
