I posted this to one of my MFP friends -- so I thought I would get suggestions from anyone who has any......
I need an IV for the water....I just looked at the clock 4:13 and then looked at my full water bottle. How pathetic am I -- not an ounce all day. I wish I could be better at the water thing. I know how much it would help my weight loss, disposition and skin etc etc etc.....got any recommendations????

I used to have to force myself to consciously drink water. Then I got Crystal Light Liquid. I'm not trying to advertise for them, but by slightly sweetening the water, I drink so much more now and it's no longer a struggle. I would definitely recommend trying it.0

Set a reminder on your phone... like every hour drink a glass of water...:drinker:0

Instead of adding in a pre-sweeter, with chemicals; try adding in any of your citrus fruit, berries, or even cucumbers to your water to flavor it; drink and enjoy.0

DH has health reasons to drink a certain amount of water daily. He fills a Brita filter/pitcher to the correct point each morning and drinks until it is gone. He measured his amount in the first place, and put an indelible line on the pitcher so that all he has to do now is fill to the line. It has been a big help. He hasn't been perfect, but he has made a big difference in his health this way.:flowerforyou:0

Good idea ... till it becomes habit and you drink water every hour on your own! :drinker:0 -
Yeah, like the other young lady said, you have to force yourself if you're not used to drinking water. You get used to it. I go through a ton a day, but i only drink bottled water. Not that i think it matters, but for me, being able to just grab a bottle and start drinking is easier than constantly replenishing a glass.0

I have always been a thirsty fool, so drinking water has never been bad for me. There is an app called "Water Your Body" that is supposed to help.0

Have a smaller glass, and when you have a drink, make yourself finish it. It's easier to drink a little glass of fresh cold water lots of times than wade through a plastic bottle full of tepid water that's sat there all day. Also, put a little squeeze of lime in and ice to make it more special again.0

camelback u drink soooo much and dont even realize it!0

I alternate my drinks ,for example if I have a glass of tea or pop the next glass I drink is water.so for every drink I have, I have also drank the same amount of water.0

Drink a glass every hour you're awake. You'll have 12 in before you know it. Keep a water bottle with you wherever you go.0

I'd set a reminder and add lemon to your water or other fruits.0

Try using a straw. I find it goes back way easier. Add lemon or fruit or a few slices of cucumber is nice too!0

I drink a glass of water every hour.
If I get tired of water, I add lemon to it. Then I am able to drink more water.
I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.0 -

Great way to get your water in every day....
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal- helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack apparently drinking water at bed time helps prevent night time leg cramps.
Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.
Who knew!
AVOID THE CHEMICAL CRAP ADD INS LIKE CRYSTAL LITE AND MIO...I add fresh lime, or fresh cucumber slices, or lemon slices to a big jug of water when i'm at home - i get through alot more that way
good luck0 -
don't know how many oz you have to/want to drink in a day - but what has helped me is the jumbo smart water bottles. It's 50.7 fl oz. I chose personally to operate under the idea of "half my body weight - in oz of water a day" as oppose to the basic 8, 8oz a day. So I thought, "JEEZ I'll be swimming in water by the time I'm done" (for me that'd require almost 200oz!!!)
So I was using cute little cups, with the straws that they have at Walmart these days - looks like the cups you'd get frozen drinks from Starbucks in.....I was never hitting my quota!!
When I changed to these tall (no funny shapes, colors, or designs) basic bottles - I was able to hit my quota almost daily of 4 bottles....(i could do a bit less than 4, but i did 4 for a nice, even easy to remember #)
And now it's like - cool, i can do this...ONLY 4 bottles - where as the cups were like almost 20 refills a day required to meet quota. So not having to drink what my brain VISUALLY SEES as "as much" helps a bit - and with these smartwater bottles - i can usually kill each bottle @ 3 different drink times.
So type of bottle has helped me - and the other thing is - a rule that i drink NOTHING ELSE til quota is met. So i don't know if your drinking other things during the day (as seems like your orig post said something like it's the end of the day and my bottle is still full...so are you drinking other things?)
I sorta made a deal with myself - kill these 4 bottles (AT LEAST 2 a day)---and then you can drink something else.
Hope this helps!0 -
Try Mio, lemon or lime juice or caffeine free tea0

i was a bad water drinker myself till i bought myself a little 0.5 liter squirt bottle its so much fun i carry it everywhere and just shoot it in my mouth i am surprised how much i got to refill it now0

My husband bought me a hydracoach to encourage me drink more water. It has been very hepful. I try to drink at leqst 64 oz every day. I take it everywhere with me. Numbers always keep me more informed and motivated.
Another option is to have a simple water bottle and take it everywhere with you. make sure you fill it up 6-7 times a day.0 -
Thanks for all the recommendations -- I love this website.
You ask a question and many people are willing to provide recommendations.
Congrats to the many who responded who have put some serious numbers on the board and wonderful profile pictures. You all look great. If you are just starting -- you are on your way to some great numbers too.
I appreciate the advice. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. Consciously if I could get past day 3 that would be an accomplishment.
Take care and great work on everything you are doing for yourself and everyone you provide comments to.0 -
A gallon a day makes the fat melt away!!
You shower your outside every day so shower your inside. Before I get in the shower, I fix a 32 oz cup of water with ice in summer. No ice in winter. The whole time I am getting ready for work, I stop and take gulps. Cant' have coffee til my water is gone. Been doing this for years!
Slowly began adding 32 oz cups. I drink 32 oz for lunch. I also drink 32 oz in the afternoon. With supper, I drink my 4th and final 32 oz cup of water. Exercise water is an additional 20 oz or so. I drink at least a gallon a day plus my 2 cups of coffee. Even when I drink diet soda with lunch on occasion, I make sure to drink 2 32 oz cups at work. I either start before lunch, if I have pre-palnned going out, or I push 2 cups back to back.
At this point, I have to have it or I am dehydrated. Even on vacation, I bought 32 oz bottled waters because I knew I needed 4 a day to get my water intake. I am completely anal about that!
That's my tip! You have to do what works best for you! :drinker: Going to get my final work cup now!! And take a pee break!! Added exerscise!! :laugh:0 -
Read a post on how to drink enough water. Seriously. I just went and poured and drank a 16oz. glass.
A lot of it is just habit. Start piggybacking drinking a glass of water with other activities. One before each meal. One before your coffee or other beverage at coffee break, one to sip during meetings, One when you go into the kitchen to start cooking a meal. You get the drift. Oh and I agree that a fresh glass of cool water (or ice water) goes down much more nicely that the tepid flat stuff sitting in your water bottle all day.0 -
I am the same way, just never get thirsty but know I have to do it. It helps me to fill up my container (no matter what you use) with crushed ice and then fill with water. If it's very cold, I seem to drink more of it. I don't like Crystal Light simply because it leaves an after taste in my mouth for a long time. I do not use artificial sweetners of any kind. If your water is very hard then you may get a smell or taste to your water. We have a big filtering system in our basement for all our water so it tastes good. Try the ice.0

Cup with a straw. I drink way more water if I am using my cup with a straw than if I just drink out of a water bottle.0

THIS! This has worked for me as well. I do three a day to make my quota0

I am the worst water drinker ever to have walked the face of the planet. It takes a huge amount of exertion for me to actually drink water. I can't just drink it, I have to really need it. I got nothing for ya. I'd have to visually set out so many bottles of water and tell myself they must be gone by bedtime.0

Try herbal teas. There are lots of really nice flavors out there. Plus sometimes it's nice to have a hot drink to mix things up a bit. You can also do iced herbal teas. Some people count ounces of fluid, whether it's plain water or not. So your coffee, juice, caffeinated tea, whatever may count toward your daily goal. I know that caffeine is a diuretic and blah blah, but it's still liquid entering your body. You can also get lots of fluids from food, like melons, fruits, cucumbers, tomatoes, soup, etc. Basically my point is that there are multiple ways to get fluid into your body, not just drinking plain water.
I used to be a water drinking junkie, drinking several liters a day and having that clear and copious urine that everyone's always talking about....then I started getting really bad cramps. I cut back on water, and drink to thirst (which can still be a lot of water/fluid) and now I don't get cramps. And I don't have to run to the bathroom every 30 minutes. I think what happened with me was that I was over hydrated to the point where my electrolytes were diluted hence triggering cramps.
I'm not advocating drinking no water and only drinking soda/juice/coffee, so don't go there and misinterpret this post.0
