I'm not sure how widely known this is, but I came across it as I was searching for lean protein options. Omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish) may help those who struggle with depression. The articles were clear that it's not a "fix all" solution. They mention that it has helped some forms of depression, and can sometimes help in conjunction with anti-depressants. As someone who has lived with depression for a long time, I found this very intriguing! They say it can be done with supplements or with simply adding fish to your diet about 3 times a week (I believe they mention 12oz/week). Whodathunk? Healthy, lean protein and an anti-depressant in one!

Here are just 2 of the articles I read (I hope the links work...it's my first time linking a website here):

http://www.webmd.com/depression/features/fish-oil-to-treat-depression

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fish-oil-supplements/AN01399

For anyone with depression, I hope this will help you on your journey! <3

ETA: couldn't get links to work, sorry

Another great validation for my decision to go from vegetarian to pescatarian (though I know that there are vegetarian omega 3 options, too).. Thanks!

That is true, diet can play a huge role in depression and fish oil (or fish) is very beneficial. Just a tip for anyone taking fish oil capsules- if can cause fishy burps or farts in people and if you freeze the supplements that won't happen anymore.
I can't provide the reason why but a doctor told me and it has something to do with the way your body breaks it down.
