So, is this gameplan for recovering from a bad day good?

I got a bit off track yesterday. My friend and I decided to make a cake in honor of Rue McClanahan (one of our favorite actresses who passed away three years ago yesterday- the cake was a recipe that she would make). While I planned on having one small slice, by the time the cake was actually DONE, I was hungry and I ate more than I originally intended on having.

Still, I decided to order like normal at Applebees, but I saved part of the meal to take home for lunch today. Then, I calculated how far over I went (over 800 calories). From that number, I subtracted the 300-400 or so calories I was under on Friday-Sunday (combined, not each day). That gave me around 354 calories remaining.

So, if I were to leave around 120 calories uneaten at the end of the day for the next 3 days, I should be on track with my weekly deficit goal, right? I know you aren't supposed to starve yourself after overeating, but 120 calories is barely anything, and I've been finding I have around 100 calories left most days anyway (I have over 2,000 calories most days and I'm just not able to eat them all without eating a lot of junk. I definitely don't plan on going under most days, but since I'm not on a 1,200 calorie diet, I'm not too concerned if I don't eat 100 calories here or there.)

  • No problem at all with that plan. Nothing wrong with starving yourself for the next day either. I do a 24 hour fast after a binge day and all is well. The metabolism doesn't even dip until after 36 hours of no food so even with fasting like that, you're just dropping insulin all day and burning fat.

With your method, you're still in a calorie deficit by week's end and moving forward, so don't overthink it so much. Enjoy the meals out once in a while.
