NSV- Ran my first race! Half Marathon!

I did it! I ran the Rock n Roll San Diego half marathon on 6/2/2013! I signed up for it in January and didn't start running until February. Prior to that, I hadn't run since high school! ..and that was only for gym class as a freshman.
When I started, I couldn't even jog half a mile without stopping. I couldn't find a happy pace. I would jog here and there, but found it difficult to stick with a training program. I started with a 20-week program that I found online... then tried a 16-week... then 12.. I just wasn't consistent enough. Finally, 8 weeks out, I told myself I HAVE to do this or I won't succeed on race day! I stuck with it those last 8 weeks and my training took me up to 10 miles. I was still really nervous for race day and 13.1 miles, but told myself that I'd finish whether I had to walk the whole thing, or even crawl!
I was in corral 22 out of a total of 26, with a predicted finish time of 3 hours. Incredibly, the race ended up being my most successful run of all! I finished at 02:29:58 with a pace of 11:27 per mile. I jogged non-stop except for 2 quick stops for gatorade and 1 stop for a GU gel (I carried water with me). I felt so proud and healthy as I crossed that finish line
If I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!

Get it girl! You WILL finish, just remember that and have FUN! The adrenaline will definitely get you going. I ran the first 5 miles without even thinking about running.... I was just excited and focused on the fact that the day had arrived and I was actually participating! What a great feeling0 -
Thanks everyone! and good luck to you on your paths to fitness and health0

Wow, congrats - that is awesome!!! My first half marathon is in a couple of weeks. I've been doing pretty well sticking to my training, although knee pain has interrupted things in the last couple weeks. I got up to 10.25 miles this past weekend, and next weekend is my last scheduled long run, hoping for 11.25 to 11.75 miles. I was really freaking myself out that I wouldn't be able to do the 13.1 without building up my distance more during training but you have really given me hope!
Oh and your time is amazing...my goal is 02:30:00. Nice work!0 -
Rock star awesome! You give me hope. I'm signed up for my first half in November.0

Damn girl! I have a friend who ran that one as her first full marathon. GREAT WORK! I'm working right now to train for a half and my goal is to do it by october/november. I started running again about a year and a half ago and stopped for a few months. I was questioning whether i'd be ready by fall to run a half (as i was on my 30- minute run for today) but you just showed me i could! I'm totally impressed and inspired. Keep it up and RUN A FULL!!!!!!0

This is so inspiring! I am registering for my first 1/2 Marathon tomorrow. The race is 2/2/14. I really can't believe I'm even entertaining the idea, but it's a goal I'd like to achieve.0
