Guideline Daily Allowance?

Hey everyone I am just wondering what the GDA is for men and women?
I always thought it was:
2000kcal for women
2200kcal for men
and 1500 for children?
Is this completely wrong? I have been arguing with my mum

Hi there, It's actually a little more complicated than that since people vary so much in height and their activity level. Here is a neat little tool from the Mayo Clinic. It lets you calculate your needs based on age/height/activity level/gender to get a better picture of daily caloric needs: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598
Hope that helps!0 -
Here's one that is not metric from active.com: http://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/calories
I get confused on the metric conversions and that one is in inches and pounds0 -
I'll second Araminta13 for solidarity. It varies, especially with the differences in height. My maintenance is around 1800, but that's because I'm only 5'1'' - below average height for an American woman. Those calorie recommendations are generally for the "average" person with an "average" activity level, so you have to adjust accordingly.0
