What's your HR while running?

I don't run very fast, but even still my HR is regularly 170-175 which is about 10-12 shy of my max. Is this common? What's yours while you're running your regular pace?

It depends on the run. When I feel pretty speedy but can sustain my pace for 30 min or so, my heart rate is usually around 156-160. Any higher and I can't keep it up. If I'm plodding along, more like 135.
My sister is like you- we run together and her heart rate is like 185!0 -
Last run I did I was between 175-1930

If I'm doing speed intervals it gets up to ~185. At my typical 5k pace it's about 165.0

I do intervals. I go up to about 185 (sometimes 190 if I feel ok), then drop down to the 150s and repeat.0

The only time my heart gets over 170 is with weight lifting.0 -

On my easy runs I stay in the 140's, possibly getting up to 155 max. I haven't done true intervals in over a month, but I made it up to 165 or possibly a bit higher. I don't recall ever seeing my HR at 170 or above. I find it difficult to maintain for very long when I go over 160.0

anywhere from 155-175 but running for more than 2 minutes straight is still pretty hard for me, especially when i need to string those 2 minutes into enough for a 5k :frown:0

My sister and I are doing a 5K July 1st and so last night we ran like Zombies were chasing us, we were DYING... at one point my HR was 181 (max is 187 at my age) and we calculated out finishing time in the 45 minute range I know I should compare to myself a few months ago, but I thought I would be better at this. My heart seems to want to explode when I run LOL0 -
Same as alot of others 160 to 165 average up to 172 uphill but I would never be out of breath legs just a bit ache on the hills but that passes once I level out again. I often wonder should I push myself a bit harder be more out of breath anyone??0

It varies with my pace.....this morning's run (8 km / 5 mi @ 10.5 min / mile) was an average of 143 for a shorter, faster run it may get up to around 155.
To the OP, how did you determine what your max HR should be?0 -
I feel better seeing all your replies!! My average HR when running a 5K is around 190-200 at 6.3 mph. I've been told that this is very fast considering I'm quite active (some people panick when they see my HRM). I've seen a cardiologist a few years ago and he didn't seem to be alarmed (ECG and stress test were normal). He said it should go down with time, but that hasn't happened. I see I'm not the only one with a high heart rate!!0

I'm a relative beginning, 5 weeks into C25K, and I range from 135 up into the 140s. I still go at a rather slow pace compared to what I hope to build up to.0

My HRM goes up to 140-159, my highest has been 165; looking at everyone elses I think that i could probably push it a bit higher.0

I have my HRM setup to show me percentage of max, which is the important number. I try to target 65-75% for long runs and 85% for tempo runs or other speed work & hills. Races are an all-out effort so 90-95% is typical.0

This is me high140's low150's at 5 to 5.5 mph or so, in my 5k i averaged 6.06 mph and average heart rate was 1660 -

I would have to walk to hit your long run numbers Maybe this is why my chest feels like it's going to explode some days. I hope my fitness levels improve, I've been at this pretty consistently for 90 days.0 -

Don't worry as much about the HR number, make sure you are able to comfortably speak in full sentences without gasping. That will tell you that you are running at a nice, easy, pace. The whole 220-age thing for max HR is not accurate for everyone. I'm 25, so according to that my HR should be 195, but during sprint intervals it's gotten above 200. My long run avg. HR is about 160-165, which is higher than what the normal formulas say it should be. I just make sure I can hold a conversation while I'm running, and I haven't had any problems or injuries. My HR is slowly been coming down as well.
If you are planning to train according to HR, then make sure you do a test to find out your true maximum and use that number. Find a track, and start off by jogging a lap (400 meters), then running a hard lap, then jogging easy, then running hard again, then jogging, then on your third hard lap really sprint through the last half of it and the highest your HR monitor goes is pretty close to your maximum HR.
