Pretty much EVERYONE needs to consume more than 1,200 calories a day.

Search on Helloitsdan's in place of a road map. :-)

you're looking at sedentary women dialling in a 2 lb/week weight loss aspiration. The recommended default 1 lb/week would be a better idea.

I am supposed to eat 1,570 a day. I do not want to have to eat 1,200. I am glad I am not there yet.

For the average person (not a super athlete or completely sedentary/obese) probably 1500 a day is the minimum you should consume. Otherwise, your body will go into starvation mode and start storing all the calories it can get as fat. Not healthy.

I am doing a little experiment my self and eating more calories (I never did do the whole 1200 thing though). I usually eat around 1500-2200 a day

I put mine at 1650 - because that seems sensible to me and also allows me to actually enjoy food :) I don't always eat all my exercise calories back though!

I'm losing 1lb a week typically on a cut of around 2000-2200 cals a day.

I stopped counting calories, and instead switched to whole grains, fruit, veggies, and low fat dairy. Just by doing that alone, I am fuller faster and thusly consume less calories. It's really all just common sense, in my opinion. Changing eating habits may not equal eating less in food amounts, but in food quality you are gaining. I've lost weight this way without a problem.

I eat around 2000 calories per day and lose pretty steadily as long as I exercise. I try not to go below 1600-1800 net calories (that's my "sweet spot" for weight loss).

I consume 21k calories a day, as per my TDEE -20%. So far, so good.

I do or I will starve! My body would not tolerate 1200 cals

The key here is to use the program properly. Your program may only say 1200 a day, but that is doing absolutely nothing in the way of exercise. You also have to enter all your activities. That means mowing the lawn, cleaning house, walking the dogs and any other form of exercise you may perform. This will add to your allowed calorie intake and is accounted for with MyFitnessPal. The idea is at the end of the day, to be in the Green with calories.

My example is this. One day I consumed 1900 calories but I recorded 800 calories of exercise, leaving me with a net intake of 1100 hundred calories. This means I was in the green by 100.

Of course the more you work out, the more nutrition and food you need and MyFitnessPal considers that for you. Just follow the program and it works.
