I made a pot of fresh green beans, whole red potatoes cut in quarters about four rings of fresh onion and approximately a TBS of olive oil. I didnt weigh or measure the beans or potatoes. Do I need to be that anal about it? But how do I know how many calories are in this pot, much less a normal serving? I know fresh/ homemade is best but if this was a can of green beansa and a can of potatoes etc the calories would be right there to read! LOL!

Have you used the recipe tab in your food section? I use it all the time and it works great.

    Just do a basic calculation:

one cup fresh green beans = approx. 30 cal.
one med. (2.25" - 3.25" dia.) red skin potato = approx. 154 cal.
one cup chopped yellow onion = 115 cal.
one tbsp. olive oil = approx. 120 cal.

Determine about how much of each you used, add them all up, and divide the total calories by the amount you are eating at a time; one cup, two cups, etc.
  • Thanks!
