Hey hey, I am only 5'2 aswell... and I'm trying to lose a similar amount to you- or even half would be nice! I was pretty active, but now winter is here and I have no daylight to exercise in, I am back to 1200cals daily, or less... depending on my choices for the day. Hope that helps.

You don't have to exercise to lose weight. You will look better if you do because exercise firms you up and helps make you look toned. Skinny people can be flabby looking (not all of them obviously) but as you lose its better to firm up.

Enter your height, age, current weight, and sedentary lifestyle and MFP will calculate your calories for you with a projected loss of .5 to 2 pounds per week. (Doesn't mean you will lose that much guaranteed)

There are other sites which will also calculate your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) from which you can subtract 20% in an effort to lose weight -- they recommend that you not go under your BMR (Base metabolic rate)

Weight loss is primarily diet and exercise is secondary -- its just that with exercise you look better.

I'm pretty lazy... but I also like to eat. So exercise means I can eat more - yay!

Be less lazy? You can lose weight at a deficit, regardless of exercise levels, but your general health is not going to be significantly improved without exercise. Plus, a combination of cardio is going to help ensure that the weight you lose (since you don't have much to lose) is mostly fat rather than a more even mix of fat and lean body tissue. You don't have to do much, but exercise is a good thing.

Put yourself in a situation where you HAVE to exercise. Have someone drop you off at work or school and walk home. Or walk somewhere and reward yourself when you get to the destination. I like to walk to a coffee shop and buy an iced coffee when I get there. walking for 30 minutes burns something like 140 calories. But you cant really be strolling, dont window shop or something. Pick a point A and B and get there.

Walking everywhere at a leisurely pace does not sound lazy to me. You mean when you are not driving? Anyway, walking is good exercise. Flexing the gluteus maximus is the best exercise for weight-loss. The biggest muscle in the human body burns the most calories without feeling strained at all.

Just be sure to walk for a sustained period of at least 30 minutes; I aim for 40 minutes. That way you can elevate your heart rate. And though it is not the intense heart-rate workout that people would consider "cardio", it is still beneficial for heart health to have a sustained increase in heart rate.

@nixism: It is winter in June and there is no daylight? I don't know of much inhabitable land that far south.

I'm a lazy girl... I walk around at my job, come home and play Call of Duty ;)

My cal intake is around 1400 right now, that's to lose 1/2 pound a week approximately. Because I'm light (133 pounds) my sedentary amount of calories to maintain weight will be about 1600-1700.

    I'm super lazy.

    I'm 5'2 and 149 lbs. I'm eating 1250 to lose 1 lbs a week.

I also hate exercise. Last time I try to lose weight (worked, lost 8 lbs in 5 weeks) I danced with the Nintendo wii (Just dance III) It was a great way to lose weight (burn tons of calories dancing) and without being bored to death and hating the exercise.

With time, I kind of started liking the dancing and then start doing some regular work outs (30 days shred).

Now I'm starting all over again so not exercising, just cal deficit

I'm lazy. Anything is possible if you eat less (but still a healthy amount)

I eat 1491 when having lazy days and 1800+ on workout days when I push myself. I do swimming and biking and walking/jog. I can admit it gets boring and that's why I have LAZY days. :) but I always watch my food so I might loose slower but hardly ever gain!

Cardio does not burn muscle. Our bodies aren't that stupid.

Imma get preachy for a minute.

I understand lazy. Like, a lot. But when I am 80, I want to be healthy, strong and able to walk everywhere. I work in an industry where I see far too many geriatrics wheel chair bound for no real good reason.

Dude. Just dedicate like, 30 minutes to some sort of real exercise.

There is plenty you can do, try dancing? can just put in earphones and have fun, doesn't have to be pretty (trust me.. I know!)

Bike in front of TV, I cycle slowly while the show is on, and do a sprint during commercials, man I hate commercials, there is so many of them!

Even when I'm vegging in front of the TV, I am lying flat doing a sort of crunch thing, lifting my shoulders an inch or two up, and holding it for a count of 20..rinse, repeat.

If you want it bad enough, you'll just "Do It" but do you really want it?

I'm 4'11". I lost 10 pounds within a few months by eating about 1500 a day and I don't exercise every day. When I do exercise, it's mostly yoga or bike riding with my kids. Nothing extreme. No lifting except for 5 pound dumbbells when I'm in the mood.
I'm not totally sedentary or lazy either. I move around a lot doing stuff around the house when I'm home. I work at a desk 3 days a week.

I calculated my TDEE and found I can actually eat up to around 1650 calories a day and still lose weight slowly. I set the TDEE calculator at lightly active because I'm not literally sitting on my butt all day.

I suggest you find an online calculator and get your TDEE too. It worked much better for me than sticking with the 1200 calories MFP suggested.

Put your information into MFP with a .5 or 1 lb a week goal loss and eat the amount it gives you. There is no exercise figured into it at all, just your daily job stuff. If you do exercise you eat those calories back.

I think it would be best to aim for 1200- 1400 calories. Despite not exercising, people do burn calories even laying in bed all day, and I am am assuming you are doing more than that. Eat enough that you do not find yourself dizzy and faint, but don't eat enough that you are bloated from fullness.

Sorry, typo. Meant to say a combination of cardio and heavy lifting.

I didn't used to be a fan of exercising, but it makes weight loss so much easier. That was enough for me to grind through it. Now it's kind of like brushing my teeth-just part of the routine.

It doesn't burn muscle exclusively, but if you don't lift and just diet and run you'll lose muscle. You'll lose some fat, too, but you can't claim that zero muscle will be lost.

Iv got 2 boys, 2yrs old and 8 months old and when they nap I workout. I do ripped in 30 plus a 30 min kettlebell workout for strength training work. That hour id use sat on my bum so I use it wisely. I just think iv got this time at home when the kids are napping so I use it or else id just waste time. Think of the free time you have and then 30-60mins exercise doesnt seem to take up too much of a day. I just got a stationary bike and use it when I watch tv and I try to cycle 90 reps a minute which isnt too fast/too slow for me so I can watch tv and zone out, maybe think of trying that?
