True - your body needs some time to rest and recover.

True and False..Listen to YOUR body! I take an "active: rest day, meaning I still do something, ie: walking, yoga, etc. Otherwise my joints hurt and I find that one day turns into two, and so on so forth!

False. It depends how you split up your exercise, what you're doing, and how experienced you are.

True for almost any novice that is following a sensible program. Perhaps 3 or even 4 days off.

    depends...

from exercise, you can go 7 days a week no prob. from training, you might need a day here or there depending on how your training routine is structured.

    Depends.

General rule of thumb is more = better IF you're working out at your level. Jumping in to 7 days per week isn't a good idea. High level athletes often train 7x per week or at least go through phases where they're training every day. Do what you can, stay just outside your comfort zone. That's if you're looking to really hone your fitness.

If you're looking to get into generally good shape, working out 3-5 days is plenty.

It depends on your goals and your current fitness level.

This is dependant on the person.

Some people require minimal rest ie a few hours or sleep.

Some people require a couple of days.

Depends on the bodies reaction to continued exercise.

    Um... True and False..

From my experience, it is not good to do the SAME exercise without rest. I was training for a half marathon and ended up injuring myself during my training months because I wasn't allowing my body to rest and recover.

That being said, as long as you switch it up and use different muscles, then go for it!

Depends on which book or article you read. or who you talk to. Personally, I like to exercise every day. If I make it a habit, like brushing my teeth, it's not a problem. If I take a day off, (and I'm not sick or hurt) it doesn't feel good....just imagine not brushing your teeth for a day. For me, I believe in taking time off when I'm sick or hurt, everyone needs time to heal.

depends on what your training looks like.

a day to recover and take a mental break is nice.

but if your exercise is just a walk or a short run, you don't necessarily need time off

True. That does not mean do nothing. It means "active recovery", like doing some yoga, running, anything different. That not only gives your body a chance to recover, it helps keep you from getting bored by doing the same old thing over and over and can also help to prevent injury.

i run and lift on alternate days - i need at least a day off per week. sometimes i need an extra one, depending on how much i push the lifting, usually.
if i were alternating light running and light cycling - i might not need a rest at all.
and i don't mean 'rest' as in 'sit on the couch and do nothing' - i still take my dog out, cook, clean, cycle to the store, etc. life goes on.
