Net Calorie Burn- Running vs Walking

Found this calculation for determining the net calorie burn of walking vs. running one mile. Thought I'd share:

Running: for each mile multiply .63 x your weight
Walking: for each mile multiply .3 x your weight

It isn't going to be exact - if you are a seasoned runner your body is much more efficient and you probably won't burn as much, but it is better than using the MFP exercise calculators which give you a total calorie burn.

    I calculate it for myself and it is close to what my HRM and most of the online charts tell me so I would consder it within 10-15 percent.

    I use the formulas that RW offers as a way of sanity checking my HRM and they're usually quite close.

    The formula for walking, however (and I think they mention this in the article) doesn't work for race walking where participants may actually experience caloric burns equal to or higher than running.
