Opinions on sports clothing that claim to tone and help you burn more calories and lose weight faster please.
Have you used any and feel they helped or is it just another fad ?

Fad.
Discipline and patience are what work.0 -
i can see that it works for you!0

I have read many times that those toning shoes are bad for your feet.
As for toning clothing, can't imagine how it would help unless it somehow makes you sweat more and lose water weight?
Gotta agree with jimmmer - they are a fad, and discipline & patience are what works.0 -
I would have to say that the toning trainers work. I haven't gained weight over the past few years, but I have gotten fluffier and outgrown my jeans. Pair after pair. I couldn't get them pulled up over my hips. After wearing Reebok's EasyTone trainers, but I have lost the bloating that kept me from fastening the waist band of my next smaller jeans. I don't exercise and haven't been dieting so I have to attribute the inches lost in my thighs and hips to the shoes.
The soles are slightly rounded. Your body has to constantly make micro adjustments with the leg and butt muscles to keep you balanced. As for being bad for your feet, I have the DrScholl's inserts that you get from the machine that measures the pressure points on your feet. I have used these for years because without them, I get lots of knee, hip and lower back pain.
I am a believer in the trainers.

No they do not work. Research has been done on the shoes that has proven they don't work, but you really don't need it. The fundamental principles of physiology dictate that they CANNOT work0

You mean "shapewear"?0

keep in mind all these books, diet plans, items, are to make someone money. While the trainer shoes sound good, they aren't a life time change that will get you to goal. I have spend so much money trying different things because I was in the top 200's and I wanted to be thin next week.
It all gets down to changing eating habits for the better and exercise. Now that I am trying to maintain and possibly lose the last 20-30 lbs, it's more exercise than anything.
I've been told this all my life, but I just didn't want to believe it. Now I'm telling others because I'm living proof.0 -

And they're so ugly!0 -
Is this a serious question? Just wrap yourself in suran wrap and sit in the sun.0

I got a pair of the reebok trainers (before I had any sense) and they constantly gave my pins and needles in my feet. No other trainer has ever done that before. They are now residing in the dump.0

I see people in the gym with those pull on silver looking jacket things...I wonder how comfortable is that and does it work.. I have never gone up to any of them and asked because I don't like to be talked to while I work out so I don't bother others..lol0

Special shoes don't make you lose weight any faster. They might mess up your back and knee alignment, because your feet aren't designed to hit the ground like that, but they won't burn fat or calories any faster than if you went barefoot.0

Again (and again, and again): No.
In any reputable gym, they don't allow those things in the first place.0 -
I have to speak out for the shoes. I bought a pair of MBT shoes (I think these were the predecessor to the Skechers Shape Ups, which i also own.) I wear a rocking sole 90% or more of the time. I do not think they male you lose weight. However, I do notice I difference in muscle fatigue when I walk or hike in these versus flat shoes. They may tone a little bit, but if that's your reason for buying them, I wouldn't bother. It's not that big of a difference.
What they ARE good for, in my case, is alleviating lower back pain. I bought my first pair in 2009 after months of heavy narcotics for severe back pain. I was happy to see the meds go, but was not sure how I would survive the pain. Between the shoes and chiropractic adjustments, I was MUCH lower on the pain scale in days. Today, I am pain free many days and have minimal pain much of the rest of the time. The severe pain is rare these days. I haven't been to the chiropractor in almost a year.
So, while I don't think they are too effective for weight loss, for me they help lower back pain tremendously.
(I am NOT a doctor and am NOT giving medical advice!)
I just thought I'd put this out there since so many of the responses here were against these shoes.0 -
If they really worked everyone wearing them would look amazing imo everyone I've seen in them would be better off hitting the gym0

Really?

No, they don't work.
Those silver jacket things are designed to make you sweat, kind of like exercising in a rubber suit. If you sweat more, you temporarily lose more water weight during a work out, and may look thinner for 1 - 2 hours...until you drink more water.
Diet and exercise will do 100% of the work for you. Diet is about 75%, changing lean muscle composition through weights is the 25%.0 -
Go to the beach and look for people who have the type of body you want to achieve. Then go up to them and ask them which type of toning shoes they wore to get their body.0

They dont work like they say, although the ones that are heavier shoes DO increase work and energy expenditure just by being heavier, like the MBT, but you could buy 2lb ankle weights for the same effect. MBT also do have a heavier foot cushioning and support against impact than average, this could have helped the people who report back pain reduction.
As for the percentages of food vs exercise...really dislike those, they are bad generalizations. For example, I'm losing weight this week, but my diet includes all the things people think are bad for weightloss: fried fish and chips, steaks, pizza, bacon several times, almost one burger/day, beer, ham, and more and I'm losing weight. Therefore I can conclude diet is 0%, exercise is 100% of weight loss...but thats also wrong, its a balance. If I could have done the miles of hiking and weight lifting every other day without eating so much this week I would have lost more (but put my body in starvation mode), and if I dieted and didnt exercise I would have lost nothing. Finding what your body burns and adjusting food and exercise to balance into a smooth sustainable weight loss is the key. What happened this week: exercise and food went way up, essentially neutralizing each other. And I'm not recommending my food this week for weightloss

I have a pair of FitFlops which are really comfortable and I love them to bits.
But I don't believe they're doing anything for my weight loss.0 -
i cringe every time i see someone in sketchers shape-ups.
I have them and they're really comfortable. =oD Don't think they do much of anything to my figure but they're nice to wear when on the feet the whole day. Also good in winter to walk through snow xoP0 -
I'm not sure how people can workout in those jacket things; I've even seen people wear the full on suit. The only thing it's good for is for sweating, even then it's still taking the easy way out. Stick to hard work and a better diet.0

Have you not heard about the lawsuits Reebok & Skechers lost due to misinformation and injury?0
-
Do they seem like they'd work? Think for a second. Does it make any sense that certain clothes would make you lose weight?
The only thing that "works" is eating at a moderate calorie deficit and exercise. If this changes, I promise you there will be media coverage. Lots and lots of media coverage.0
