Bruising and Iron Deficiency?

I have noticed that I bruise more easily than I have in the past. Any idea what might be causing this? I was thinking maybe an iron deficiency but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

I've noticed the same thing with myself. I'm a vegetarian, but that's nothing new, I've been one for over 10 years, so feel like it has to be something else I'm missing in my diet. I take multivitamins with iron, not to mention I manage to eat foods that have a good amount of iron in them. Your guess is as good as mine. :ohwell:

Use of NSAIDs like ibuprofen causes your blood/clotting to change. Not sure what changes, but it's a longer term effect. For example, you may need to avoid NASAIDs for weeks or months before you notice a difference in the "durability" of your skin and avoiding the beautiful purple and blue marks. I speak from experience.

an easy and quick check on your iron levels, is to look at your eye lids. If they are red, or nice and pink, your levels are good.
if not and it's pale, your iron is likely low. you might also feel more fatigue than normal, but not always.

Any chance that you're more active now....so you have more opportunity to bruise, and you're moving with more vigor now so you're more likely to bruise?

Just a thought. Also, if you're considerably more skinny... you've less padding now! woot!

Vitamin C deficiency is also linked to bruising. Are you eating enough fruits and veggies? If you aren't taking a multiple vitamin you should start. I bruise easily when I am watching what I eat.

I guess less padding could definitely be a factor.

I didn't know this either but I very rarely take any medication so I think I can rule this out.

I take a multivitamin too and I eat meat but not very much at all, especially red meat.

Im aneamic and bruise like a peach! Can get a bruise from the slightest little thing and they can last for weeks too. I do take iron tablets.

ETA: I take the proper iron (Ferrous Sulphate) rather than a multi vitamin type iron tablet.

I would see a doctor. Bruising is a symptom of several serious illnesses (run bruising through WebMD or another medical site for more info).... or it could be caused by something simple.
