Sabotage

When I see these posts I get a bit confused. Do people genuinely believe that other people (mostly people who reportedly love them) want them to be/remain fat?
I have only seen such ideas in two other places. Chubby chaser forums and ED group therapy...
IMHO if someone loves or cares for you they want you to succeed. If they offer food, they are probably not thinking about it or are just being nice.
If it is someone who doesn't care about you, they probably don't realise what they are doing is tempting you and you shouldn't really care about what these people think.
At the end of the day it boils down to it being about you and what you want and if you find other people to support you, that is great. If not, you have to find the strength and motivation to do it yourself.

Ooooh, interested to see how this thread plays out! I am inclined to agree though. It comes mostly from people that think the world is out to get them and are looking for any excuse to feel sorry for themselves/quit trying.0

Changes in loved ones, even positive changes, can make people very anxious and cause them to do things, without conscious intention, to interfere with the change. It still leaves us responsible for ourselves, but sometimes sabotage isn't always misconstrued. One term for it is a "change back message."0

Yeah. When people offer me things, I always just assume they are doing it out of kindness, rather than spite.0

Yepp. Unless they hand you something and say PLEASE EAT THIS BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO BE FAT FOREVER it's probably out of kindness.0 -

They might be from almost anywhere else besides the US...we are actually the ones who spell it weird0 -

My mother used to cook the most delicious meals. Full of fatty goodness. I was in a very good shape. And she was one of those Asian mothers who would keep feeding you and putting food in your plate till you literally grab her hand and tell her "Thats enough mom". Now she's dead. That evil mother of mine planned her sabotage on me. Once she died, I gained weight. I dunno how but I know that evil satans minion did it!
My current sister-in-law. She cooks food so good that I would rather eat her cooked veggies than a nice steak. I literally get to tell her what to cook for me today "hey can you cook me some nice curry and a nice portion of salad please?" I'd say and all that evil woman would reply with is "sure, what time you wanna eat so I can make you fresh bread?". This is the kind of sabotage I deal with. DAILY!
Then my nephew. That 3 years old nephew! He grabs me. DRAGS me to the shop and makes me buy him an ice cream. DAILY! He's sabotaging me because When he buys an ice cream, I wanna buy one. But He never eats his own. He has to have MY 1/2 of the ice cream and his own ice cream he has after dinner. He eats half of my ice cream. I will be telling him he's adopted till my death bed.
So don't you try and tell me that sabotage isn't real. Oh its real alright!0 -

I hear you. There will definitely be outliers. But, I think the majority of incidences are the person misconstruing people's kindness or thoughtlessness as sabotage/hostility.0 -

Hm, would you spell Americanized or Americanised?0 -

I dunno, sometimes people are so ignorant typing out their native English language versus the Americanized language that they forget that there is a country called US where people just don't like knowing that there are other parts of the world.

That definitely happens a lot too. I wonder how many "saboteurs" are actually people who feel uncertain what to do when interacting with a dieter. The only one I know that I've made it clear to what not to do is my hubby. I don't want surprise treats, unless it's a soy latte. Anyone else, a surprise treat is great, because that's really random and unlikely to happen. They don't grocery shop with me in mind.0 -

Because this is the way it is spelt in many countries.....0 -

Hey now, don't bash a whole country over one person! Some of us are fully aware that there are other countries out there that spell things the right way! (I don't like to use the z either...it looks dumb.)0 -

I'm in South Africa and we use the s instead of the z but our computers are calibrated to recognise the American spelling!! In fact at this moment the word recognise (including this one) has been underlined by red wavy line that indicates incorrect spelling, even though it's actually correct in South African English! How funny's that?0 -
I wish someone would sabotage me, but no, I have to get my own ice cream and mochas.
I agree with you, McB. No rational, sane, kind person would try to derail someone else's health goals. But, I think that we can agree that if it's one thing the MFP forums have taught us, is that the world is full of people who are not, in fact, sane, rational, or kind.
-also, you can sabotage me anytime, McB :flowerforyou: **insert creeper gif here**0 -
I have never been the target of ACTUAL sabotage, but it sure does feel that way when you're thinking... Boy, I could really use a pastry, glad there aren't any goodies within arm's reach! And then a coworker yells from down the hall "hey, guess who just stopped by the bakery!" At that point I decide whether I can fit half a crumb cake into my daily goal or brace myself to avoid the white box next time I run to the break room for water. The more I don't eat pastries, the better I get at not eating pastries, so my generous coworkers are doing me a favor, really.0

ignorance is bliss.
Realise vs. realize
Realise and realize are different spellings of the same word, and both are used to varying degrees throughout the English-speaking world. Realize is the preferred spelling in American and Canadian English, and realise is preferred outside North America. The spelling distinction extends to all derivatives of the verb, including realised/realized, realising/realizing, and realisation/realization.0 -

Because as long as people claim people are sabotaging them then they don't have to take responsibility for the *kitten* they eat0

my sister will wave yummy smelling pizza and snacks under my face while i'm sipping on my nonfat yogurt smoothie, but I feel like it just reinforces my stubbornness to stick through it. I did have another "friend" tell me not to diet at all because I over did it last time... which last time I didn't go under 170lbs... so I really don't understand the logic.
For the most part, my friends are very supporting of my diet and they will ask me what time i'm showing up so they can try to have their pizza or buffalo wild wings food finished so I don't have to look at or smell the delicious stuff. My mother is all about me losing weight and has even went as far as to buy me healthy food from the store and the option to use her workout equipment.0 -
