Thoughts on the Candida Diet?

Okay so with this diet, I just cannot even imagine where to begin. Basically anything I can eat, it is no longer allowed. Fruit, all dairy, pistachios (the only nuts I do like), almond milk, carrots, vinegars, any and all grain products. I am unfortunately a super picky eater. I try a lot of foods, many many times, but I just can't. I know I need to stop eating so much refined sugars, but I don't think I could follow something like this that seems so extreme. Has anyone tried this, and could you give me any ideas about what you think of it, or maybe some key foods that really helped it? Or is it just better to eat cleaner, more natural foods, fruits, vegetables and such and not even worry about this? My mom thinks that it will help cure the symptoms that we have, such as fatigue and headaches and such, but is this kind of huge undertaking really necessary?

Honestly just figure out your needs and eat at a deficit. You'll lose weight & eventually stat to feel better in general.

Thank you. That's what I'm thinking as well. It's probably a bad outlook to take, but I just feel that I would fail if I literally can't eat anything I like besides cucumbers. I generally think that doing things gradually is better than just taking absolutely everything out. I also don't like name diets that ask for money, i'd prefer just a natural lifestyle change. i'd possibly consider this if people thought there were amazing benefits, but it's kind of just looking like a way to make money :/

I remember looking into it. It was just a low carb diet with pills to buy on top of it, nothing special. They over exaggerate the effect of candida to sell pills.

I tried it for medical reasons back in 2010. Lost 25lbs in 6 weeks because there was just nothing I was able to eat that I liked! Gained it back within 6 months. I think if you don't medically need to be on it, don't. I got clinically depressed afterward just thinking about having to go back on it again...not good! I wouldn't ever do it agan.

I have a sister and SIL on this diet and there are no diet pills and it is not simply low carb. But it is restrictive and hard and if headaches and fatigue are the only symptoms I would just start eating clean before going so restrictive. You might find that does it for you :)
Otherwise going from eating sugar to cucumbers is just going to result in serious bingeing and that will do nothing for candida - I find the whole candida thing to be over used in all natural circles. . .

Well unless you're trying to shift a stubborn yeast infestion, there is no real benefit ti doing a Candida diet. Just eat sensibly and follow the good advice above.

Yes, that really does seem to be the case. I think i'll just stick with eating more naturally. thanks for your response!

I'm so sorry that happened to you, that is terrible. I can totally see why though, no foods that I like are on the 'okayed' list either. thanks for sharing your experience, good to know!

Do you have a problem with yeast?

If that's the case maybe up your probiotics and prebiotics have some cultured yogurt and eat some fruit with is a great source for prebiotics. Also try some kefir that's loaded with bacteria cultures.

I do think that'll help for sure. I can't imagine not eating fresh fruits and the vegetables I like that are on the do not eat list (carrots and potatoes) and actually sticking with it. I feel like so many nutrients are missed as well. Thank you!

I'm not even sure if I do. I'm simply tired all the time and have a lot of headaches. but I feel like it's just all the refined sugars I eat, not necessarily the natural sugars and starches. Good thoughts, will definitely be adding in more yogurt and fruit, since I do really like both. Thank you!

i think its just a money grab as there is no science backing up the whole candida thing. Of course cutting out EVERYTHING will make you feel better! as with any diet though, changes will only be temporary. You need a lifestyle change and those don't happen over night! My advice would e to start small with little, attainable goals. Like maybe make it a goal to drink 8 cups of water a day and make sure to have a water bottle with you at all times! then swap out refined grains for whole grain etc. This is how i did it and you wont believe how far I've come and how much i have learned over the years! and i have SO much more energy! Even not drinking enough water will leave you exhausted and with a headache so i believe that is a great place to start :)

also, look into natural replacement sugars like stevia and xylitol to bake with so that you aren't struggling by cutting out sweetness all together!

Thanks so much for your ideas and encouragement!! I think that water is a super big issue for sure. It's really difficult for me to drink enough because I really never feel thirsty and drinking more water still isn't as second nature to me as it should be. I've noticed a huge difference of being extremely tired with multiple headaches every day since I started exercising again about a week ago after stopping for a month. I think it might just be an issue with the water, but yes, small changes of adding/eliminating good/bad things can only help. Thanks again!

that makes sense then! muscles are made of water and you need a lot more when you are exercising! it was really hard for me too ar first, the water bottle helped remind me to drink it and after a while i NEEDED it lol.

Nah. Try going a different route. I feel like anything that takes away so much won't work for you in the long run.

You need to eat raw garlic. I do everyday. It is a natural anti fungal and the LESS candida you have the less sugar cravings you will have. :)
