Hi everyone, I have been looking round this site and having a bit of a play...I really like what I see
I have been battling my obesity for 20years. I have tried every diet under the sun. every pill, potion, detox, fad, lastest medical reasearch, low carb, high protien, low salt, points program, shakes, bars, prepreared meals, "come to us we will help you" diets....and there is my problem "DIET". I am not a niave person but I must be a real dummy to think that over the years these were all going to be the answer to all my problems....well they are not ...the answer is inside me, in my head it needs a change of attitude...I have 2 beautiful teenage daughters and one of them (16) came to me the other day and said " mum I want to join a Gym. When I asked her why her asnwer was..."i dont want to hurt your feelings but i was looking at some old photos the other day and there were so many of you and dad, you were so beautiful and happy..I look like you ..I love you very much and when I am 40 I dont really want to be as big as you so if I start looking after my self now it will be easier then what you are trying to do with those horrible shakes" "You seem so sad all of the time and I wish that you could be like you were in those pictures, I want to see the stars in your eyes when you smile, I want to hear you laugh, so can we join a Gym, I will take you there and help you." So with thatI found this site and we have joined a gym and have started to go, I find it really hard right now people are looking at me and I feel scared and uncomfortable but I have a different out look on life thanks to my girls and I want to be that Happy 41yr old mum that has stars in my eyes when I smile...I really need support I cant fail again...I cant disapoint them :(

It sounds like you have reached not time to diet but it is time to learn to live again.......I reached that point this pasted Jan. it was my 31st birthday and I spent it at a double funneral.....My father's family my grandmother and uncle...My father had 3 brothers and now I one uncl left and I thought about how he wasn't worthy of the life he had and how father was more worthy and damn it he better start taking care of himself or it wouldn't be long before he would join them all.....And that when I realized I need to take care of myself now.......I know this is long and rambles but I am just trying to say do it for your daughter I am doing this for my son....Us woman don't change for ourselves we change for the people we love.

You did a great job with your kids and now they're stepping in when you need it - how cool! Time to spoil yourself a bit and do a great job on YOU (with their help!)

Hi Shazzie, Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll find your motivation and inspiration on this site, because i know i have. I have about 20lb to loose, but i kept yo-yoing and i came back on this site and realised i'd gained 7lb since i last logged in! So i asked a few people if they could be my friend to help motivate me and this was only a few days ago, and all this week I have actually been under my calorie intake - only by say 20, but before i'd be at least 500+ over. Everybody has been very friendly and motivational and i don't think i could have turned it around without it. I hope you find this helpful, just ignore the people who are looking at you at the gym - its their problem not yours - that's why people go to the gym to loose weight and/or to get fit!! Good luck, and you've got support with your daughter also, :flowerforyou:  Helen x

Don't feel uncomfortable at the gym, feel proud that you are doing something about it. You'll get more and more used to going and you will start to recognise people in the gym. There will always be the scary body builders and those who are super fit and go twice a day, 7 times a week, but don't let them intimidate you into not going.

If at first, you are still worried about people looking at you, then go at a quieter time during the day.Take a late lunch at work and go then and midday on the weekends is often quiet, or early morning on a sat or sun.

You can do it, you've got a lot to be proud of. There are millions of people out there in your situation, but you are doing something about it.. Just remind yourself of that.

I also suggest a personal trainer, just to set you out an exercise routine to start with. You only need to use a PT once every couple of months to help you get a routine going that will really help you shed those pounds!

Good luck and feel free to add me!

I am 55.. and been thru exactly what you have... I am 95 pounds down... happy and secure in me for the first time in my life...... This site is great to help you mind yourself.... and get support from so many people who know exactly what you are going throught. This is it... remember....IF YOU STAY PRESENT AND MAKE CONCIOUS CHOICES ABOUT YOUR FOOD AND YOUR HEALTH .... here is what happens.

    1. The decision you make is the best one you can make at the time. Relax.... You will make a better one next time.

    2. there are no good or bad choices... Only choices

    3. You begin to truly love you for the first time...--- this is the key... truly love you ... warts and all...... not I'll be great when.... I AM GREAT NOW!!!!

This is the start.... best wishes on your journey... Feel free to friend me if you like..... YOU CAN DO THIS> You have strengths that you don't realize you have. You have power you have yet to tap into.... You are strong, empowered, and beautiful.
  • Well your kids sound amazing! With the way they love and care about you to help you make a change, it's so sweet!
MFP you'll soon realise is a great place to be. The support on here is something you couldn't imagine and I can't imagine carrying on losing my weight without the great people on here.
There's just one thing that I recommend with being new and that's to send out as many friend requests as you can because the more friends you have the more support you will get from them to help you achieve your goal.
So Welcome, good luck and most of all have fun because it makes losing those lbs so much easier and enjoyable.
