shin splints?

I've had what feels like constant shin splints for two days now. I am pretty sure its not even from running, but from walking around Chicago in flat sandals a few days ago. Anyways, my question is do I rest until I'm not in pain anymore or can I push through it and run?

rest, sorry, but there's nothing else to do. we know an orthopedic surgeon and he said you need to rest shin splints, period, don't run while you're in pain. then you can try some of the suggestions other people have given for preventing them.

Rest, ice, and stretch. There's nothing terrible about them being sore but if you feel pain while you exercise then you probably need a break.

It's usually caused by your shoes not properly absorbing the shock from walking or running, since you've done both, it's hard to tell which shoes are the culprits. It can also be caused by not slowly increasing your level of activity to give your muscles and tendons time to get stronger.

Shin splints are caused when your Tibialis Anterior muscle starts to separate from your periosteum (sack of connective tissue around your bone).

Ice for 20 mins, wait an hour, use heat for 20 mins. You can also gently massage the muscle down towards the tibia to help encourage healing. It's really important that you let this heal properly or it could become chronic.
