OP, your stats are about the same as my brother, and he has lost 90 pounds eating 2000/day. I think 1500 is too low for men unless they are really small and very sedentary.

I'm 50 years old 6'0" looking to cut weight down to 190. I started out doing 2000 calories intake and looking to lose 2 lb per week. I have maintained that weight loss for almost 40 weeks now. My daily workout volumes are probably higher, and I have increased my calories to have the energy to do those workouts. My calorie budget is now at 2600 and I'm still running 1500 and occasionally 2k calories deficits with weekly deficits coming in around 10-11k. My diet seems to correspond to what I think they call a Mediterranean diet. This isn't due to any philosophy or ideology. It's just what I think tastes good. I live in California's Central Valley, which produces about 1/4 of the produce for the planet, and I tend to take advantage of that. In other words, I try to avoid chemicals and processed food and eat stuff I can buy at the local farmer's market. And right now the watermelon rocks.

I may also have a different conception of what it means to look good. For me, looking good means looking good in motion, not just standing there. I'm getting back into doing some training for Muay Thai fighters (I've been in it since I was a kid) in my spare time, and I need to keep up with them in order to function as a trainer. As a result I approach strength training with the objective of building speed and explosiveness and functional strength but not bulk. And I wind up doing anaerobic training that, well, you aren't gonna see people doing unless they're competing in an endurance sport.

Finally, I tend to be a bit cautious about providing people feedback on diet. I think I eat healthy but have no claim to be an expert on diet. And I really want to avoid being one of those guys who is self-righteous about his food. I've found people like that are usually self-righteous about other things and that's not who I want to be.

    /Respectfully

I'm in losing mode so my caloric intake is 1820. Any type of exercise nets me more and I usually eat back about 75% of those. So far so good. I'm eating better and pretty much what I want just not in huge amounts.

    290 lbs
calories is 2200-2400 on non workout days
2600-3800 on workout days 4-5x a week. heavy lifting and cardio.
goal is to lose and with my size it's between 200-220 lbs/ bodyfat % 20 or less.
I'm not consistent with the weight loss either. some weeks I lose 2-3 lbs. other weeks I'll lose nothing. I don't focus on the scale. I go by monthly bodyfat %/inches lost checks. as long as that goes down each month, I'm good.
  • 5'9, 168 (aiming for 158 to lose a little middle age flab). I've been low carb/high fat for some years but age demands changes, so after some experimenting it looks like 1550 a day is what works for me.

Consistency is the key to success, and mental toughness is the key to consistency.

My husband is 180, 5'9''. To maintain, he needs at least 3000 calories a day, closer to 4000 sometimes. He has a very active job, does not exercise.

2200-3000 depends on workout.. 2200 is no workout.

I'm 5'5", eat between 1800-2400 daily. 1800 no exercise, 2400 when I lift. I eat back more calories when I also do cardio. My average weight loss has been between 1.5-2 lbs over the passed 5-6 months.

optimally, 2150 but I'll still lose about 0.5 Lbs per week around 2300-2400 gross. I use the TDEE method. When I did MFP my net goal was 1850, plus exercise usually put me between 2100 and 2200 gross to lose 1 Lb per week. 6 of 1 half dozen of the other. I'm 38 and 5'10" and 180 Lbs...around 20% BF.

As long as you're getting a workout in there as well 2000 is very reasonable. I'm 5'6" and about 154-155lbs. I'm pretty much maintaining that weight on 2030 cals per day. Workouts are 6 days a week and I almost always eat back the workout calories. Normal days I'm consuming roughly 2500 - 2600 calories.
I did start my journey at 1500 cals then upped it to 1800 and then 2030 about 6 weeks ago. All done in an attempt to jump start things then keep metabolism moving and feeding the exercise needs.

I usually burn about 4k - 4.5k calories per day. I had been eating about 2400 calories per day but have been trying to get it higher. I still fall down around 2300 if I'm not paying attention. But I workout harder and feel better if I'm up more towards 3k calories consumed. Um, I'm 50 years old, ~18%BF and am about 223 lbs. Weight loss is slowing as I near my goal weight, so it's maybe 1 pound a week now. But I have been losing 2 pounds a week since last October.

How do you burn 4k per day if you don't mind me asking?

I eat 1800-2100 per day. No problems at all losing 2lb per week for a month now.

stick with a grams of carbohydrates budget, not a calorie budget. Calories have no importance for weight loss.

I eat 2000 to 2300 calories a day. I try to burn off 1000 to 1500 a day for my deficit. On weekends I might eat a little more as Saturday's and Sunday's I like to put in 4+ hours a the gym and get that 3000 or high burn in.

What up guys! I'm back on the wagon and I wanted to see if anyone else's plan is anything like mine? Trying to lose 2 lbs a week and I want to eat 2000 calories and I'm between light and moderate activity with at least 10,000 steps a day. I'm 5'8 and 240.

Despite my calorie budget seeming totally reasonable, I feel like I'm in the minority that has a budget this high. Even guys way bigger than me I see all the time talking about how they eat 1500 a day or whatever. Would be nice to see some fellas doing it similar to me

Hey brother, I'm 5'11" Weighed in this morning at 238 and change. I'm light to moderate like you, MFP has me at 1910. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like.

im 5'9" and started out at 296. i am down to 277 now. i am working with a 2000 cal intake with 40% protein, 35% fat, and 25% carbs doing the 18/6 intermittent fasting. so far it has worked out pretty well. i am pretty active, gym 4-5 days a week, plus i work as a cabin stainer so i am outside a lot climbing up and down hills, carrying ladders that weigh upwards of 100lbs, and not to mention the fact its 90 degrees lately and 60-100% humidity. i try to log all my exercise and some of my work. i never eat back my calories for exercise. i do very little cardio at the moment but about to ramp that up, and i also am lifting fairly heavy for 3-5 reps and 4-6 sets. i will be starting to lower the weight and increase volume next week to help speed up weight loss a bit. im shooting for 250-255 by end of september for the warrior dash, and my goal weight is 195-200.

I'm 6'0 and just under 210 lbs. I basically eat 2000 calories per day. My MFP has me set at 1930 (sedentary) without exercise. I'll generally eat a little more than 2000 on workout days.
