almost 30 pounds gone, but don't feel a difference.

I'm 5'10" and down 45 lbs. For the first 30, I wore the same clothes, thinkiing "why do these still fit?". The answer is because all my clothes were stretchy. Stretchy jeans (not elastic waist, but denim with lycra or some other stretch fabric for lots of give), slacks with stretch, primarily knit type fabrics or sweaters. But now realize that when I starting losing weight, all my clothes were tight, but I was just used to it. Clothes with stretch will "fit" longer than those with no stretch. It wasn't until a coworker told me that I looked like I was wearing someone else's clothes that I realized others could see a difference.. It wasn't until I put on some clothes that didn't have any stretch to them that I really saw a difference.
Just keep plugging away. You're doing great!
I had the same experience with some of the jeans I had been wearing for 18 months, they fit exactly the same I THOUGHT after 30+ lb weight loss but what really happened is they used to be tight and then stretch out over the course of the day, and I would not wash them often. Now I wash them every time and they seem to fit great but after a whole day of wear, they're falling down!
I've also had the reality check of multiple friends, coworkers, and family recently commenting (nicely) that my clothes just DON'T work on me because they are too large. It is sometimes almost bittersweet - but overall, a good thing!!0 -
I totally understand where you are coming from. I have lost 30 pounds also and have barely lost a clothing size. I like you don't get it. I am wearing the same bras and underwear. My jeans had stretch so now they are not tight but I can still wear them. It took a 30 pound loss for people to notice. I only have 30 ponds to go to my goal.
I didn't want to make this about me. You look great in your photos but I get what you say and how you feel. I kind of worry that I will eventually hit my "goal" but it won't be enough. Good luck to you.0 -
Keep at it your doing great! You can see the hour glass shape now :drinker:
It took me about 40lbs to go down a dress size...... dont focus on dress sizes anyway they are all different and wrong, get your tape measure out and measure your waist, thighs, hips, calfs, bust and arms if you havnt already.0 -
Thanks everyone. Some days it can be rough. I step on the scale and still see it hovering between 289/290 and my clothes still fitting. I'm starting to believe measuring tape is on crack because I'm like no way I lost this many inches and still in an 18!
I'm going to stay off the scale for a while.
Thanks again! I do joke that my height saves me. 5'11 and 287 pounds and a lot, if not all, people I talk to say no way. Sadly, all of my weight is in the midsection area.0 -
Try taking the photo wearing the same clothes as in the first photo. You will probably see the difference then!0

You look great! Don't give up! It always take us a awhile to see the positive changes in ourselves. You have taken the necessary steps for self improvement & that's wonderful! Keep it up. You will see the changes soon enough.
Peace & blessings be yours.0 -
Well I do see a difference, and you are looking great.
I totally get what your saying though. I went through that as well. Just keep doing what you're doing, it will come off and soon enough you will really see AND FEEL the difference.
From my experience.... I really noticed a change when I added some type of strength training to my cardio. I started with Body Pump classes. I'm not sure if you already do weights but if you don't add them, if you do... maybe increase your weights a bit.
Looking good, keep it up!!!!

I definitely see a difference! Your legs look so much smaller! You are lookin great!! Keep up the great work.0

When I first started and still had a lot to lose, it took like 30lbs to go down 1 pant size. Now that I'm down to the last 15-20 lbs, 5 lbs = 1 pant size. Be patient and you'll see results.0

Do NOT get de-motivated by this! Keep moving, keep tracking and keep trying stuff on! Go to the store and try things on you wouldn't usually try on. I have lost 48 pounds and I can wear clothes from size 12-16, depending on cut and style. The difference is that before most of the clothes were 16-18, with a couple of things at a 14 and now most of the clothes are 12-14, with a couple of things at a 16. My point is clothing sizes are inconsistent. 30 pounds is awesome and you definitely look slimmer.0

I'm in a similar situation, being tall, so you have to think about it like this: If you take 10# off of someone who is 5', it will be more noticeable than when you're close to 6' (it's 1/6 more noticeable, right?)! I've lost 30# and things are fitting more loosely, but it's not like I'm only losing off of my tummy or anything. It's distributed evenly, so I have to be patient. Definitely take measurements, though! I lost an inch on my calves and I would never have known because it's not like it's knee high boot season or anything. It came off and I wouldn't have realized it until the measurements.0

You may not have lost a size yet, but you've gained so much shape definition! You look awesome now because that hourglass figure is showing much better!
Keep up the good work. The size will change eventually when you aren't looking!0 -
I don't know how true this is but someone on here once said that the reason its so hard to drop plus sizes is because where normal sizes have a one inch difference, plus sizes have a 2 inch difference- so you basically have a smaller person losing two sizes to your one.
And also that breaking into 16's (which generally have no stretch) from 18's 20;s (which all generally do) is a HUGE challenge!
I can see a difference in the photos you showed. You're doing great!0 -

This is what I was thinking.I said to myself that I bet plus size clothes have more inches to stretch before going up to the next size. I've given myself the goal to be in a 16 by the end of fall. When I was 250, that's the size I was in.0 -
Op: your not alone, I lost 73 lbs, and I find feel any diffrent, I think I suffer from body dismorphia. No matter what, I still fell like I weigh 257!! It's all in our minds, not our bellies! Lol0
-
You will see and feel it...As someone who has lost 35 lbs and then has since put the 35 pounds back on, trust me there is a difference! I too didn't see or feel the 35 lbs loss that much, but since putting it all back on? I CAN SEE IT and I CAN FEEL IT! Don't put it back on! Just know that there is difference, and before you realize it, you will feel and see the difference.

I've lost a total of 60 lbs.. I went from and 18/20 to a 14. It's slow to drop pants sizes.. The last place I seem to be losing is my belly. I'd bet your doing the same thing. It's frustrating because we can't pick and choose where we lose weight, but you will get there. Weight is weight. If you lose it, then it's good. If you convert it to muscle then it's good. focus on that. Focus on the positive not the pants size. be greatful that your wallet doesn't have to take the new wardrobe hit just yet. LOL. I have so few things that fit now.. I have to wear each pair of trousers for work twice a week, just to remained clothed. I love casual Friday.. because I get to pick between 2 pairs of jeans that fit. LOL.
Seriously You can see that you've lost weight. You're looking good! Keep thinkint he positive thoughts and know that with time smaller pants will come! Oh and losing a cupsize.. isn't so great.. LOL. I kinda want that back.. LOL0 -
i can tell a difference. you look good, you hold your weight very well.0
-
You are, by far, the prettiest 288 lbs chick I think I've ever seen. Maybe your boobs just feel bigger because the fat around them has diminished a bit. Good job!0
-
I can definitely see a difference. Keep going, you're doing great!
You may have been buying clothes that were too small for you to begin with. Most plus sized styles have a generous amount of stretch to them, so you won't really see much difference in the fitting rooms for a while.
In regards to bra size, when I lost weight, my band size went down, but my cup size went up. So things change in ways that are hard to see.0 -
I can see a difference in your waist area especially. I am 5'9 weigh 245lbs and am still in an 18.0
-
I feel the same way. I have lost twenty pounds, but I don't feel any different. When people ask me if I have lost weight for those who know about my diet, I'm like, can't you notice it?0
-
I totally see it!!! Your body overall looks slimmer! I could not see it until I had lost almost 40 pounds!0
-
Nice0
-
um can u see your 'pre waist', right below the boobs shrinking? I definitely see a difference but i know how u feel when u haven't gone down a dress size.0
-
Look at that tiny waist! I'm tall as well, and I totally get the frustration--I can see some changes in my body, but I'm nearing 30 pounds or weightloss and I still haven't dropped a full pants size.
Also I bet the reason you feel like your boobs have gotten bigger is because you now have a slim waist to compare them to! You look amazing!0 -
The difference is HUGE! I noticed that with some types of clothing it stretches as you wear it and it goes through washes. so it actually gets bigger as you get bigger. You are up a size or 2 but don't need to buy the bigger size...SO, while you are in fact loosing a few dress sizes, it feels like you are loosing none. Makes sense much?0
-
You look good, keep it up! I was the same way. I lost 30 pounds and it took other people to tell me they could see the difference. As far as going down in size, I can still wear some of the clothes I was wearing before, just have more room, really loose, and not uncomfortable like before. It takes time, but we can do this.0
-
Don't even worry about the dress size issue. You look AMAZING!!!!!0
-
If you're like me the 18's I wore at the start of MFP were stretched out and tight... they may as well have been 20's or 22's.( But I wouldn't buy bigger than an 18!! ...vanity) I needed to do something.... now 15lbs down and the new 18's actually fit. Don't get discouraged....it will come.0
