  • Because of Princess Kate, it's my understanding that hose IS on their way back in. Your clothing choices are good ones.

I went to the University of Oregon and I'd like to think it's just about the most informal university ever. So I may not be much help here. But I think the most important thing is your comfort. Especially since you're going to be in front of all those kids. Possibly you will feel like they're judging your clothes or appearance. I would wear something comfortable and not too "shiny" or trendy so that you're not mistaken for a student and at the same time can focus on your class and not on the heels that are digging into your pinky toe or the wrinkles in your top.

Good luck and AWESOME that you're teaching.

You must have picked this out of your personal collection. Trolling at its finest.

This is actually very similar to how I dress for work. I'm not sure what the above poster was talking about, but I can sit comfortably in cross my legs in every single pencil skirt that I own and I have many!

    Bang
^^ this is what i'm talking about.

Okay, BUT unless she dresses like a nun, it might still be noticeable that she is female, and some people may still find her attractive. That's not the end of the world. I mean, you should obviously try not to dress provocatively, but you can't worry too much about it, either.

I taught high school and my personal preference was to dress on the more professional side. But that was me. Other teachers preferred to be much more casual. I liked (as was just said) not being mistaken for a student. You know, back in the day. (<<That's me, mourning my lost youth.)

I can understand why you might feel the need to dress 'up' (or 'old', maybe), but I think good posture, a direct gaze & confidence are going to be more effective than any skirt. Also, voice - sit deep in the centre of your tone, and end sentences with a downward (vs upward) inflection.

V is a good vid on nonverbal language that may help

"Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

Amy Cuddy’s research on body language reveals that we can change other people’s perceptions — and even our own body chemistry — simply by changing body positions"

Forgot to reply to this until now! Thanks for the link, it was incredibly helpful!
