How to use calipers

Hi

I have bought a set of calipers, but I am confused about how to use them. I can only find videos of people who have a very low percentage of body fat and have hardly anything for the caliper to pinch anyway.

If I am grabbing my Suprailiac area do I pull all the fat I can to the area and measure like the 1st pic:

Or should I just grab what is easily pinchable in that area like pic 2:

Does anyone know any videos of people who still have weight to lose that will be useful?

Its really hard to measure yourself....I have calipers and each time I take a measurement, I get a different result, yet when I do my husband, its the same.

I agree with it being a bit more difficult to measure oneself - I measure myself once in a while, but I might also just be confused by my measurements.

The three areas I use as outlined by ACE Fitness are abdomen (about an inch right of the navel, skinfold made horizontally), upper chest (about halfway between nipple and arm pit), and anterior mid-thigh.

My blah-blah-blah: I get barely any measurement on the upper chest or anterior mid-thigh but more on the abs, yet I somehow measure out to 10% body fat or so. Might just be my perceptions of myself but I feel I'm no less than 12-ish%.
