HRM Accuracy!

I recently got a heart rate monitor. Before I always used the calories burned numbers that MFP would give me when I plugged in my numbers for a certain exercise. I've noticed that my HRM says I burn WAY more than what MFP says I do, but I'm wondering if I just have a naturally high heartbeat? I'm in good shape, 5'8" 137 lbs. Its an Ironman Triathalon HRM. I just went on a 55 minute run and it says I burned almost 900 calories (10 min/mile). Does this seem like a bit much? Thoughts anyone? The HRM does have a chest strap...any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have the same one, and the calories burned are ridiculous! It wasn't like that when I first started using it, but after about 3 weeks the calories burned nearly doubled. I just don't use that function anymore, which is extremely annoying since that is the main reason I purchased the HRM! I still use it for the HR readings and the time of my workout. I just take the average HR and use a calculator online that takes into account my weight, age, average HR and amount of time spent exercising to calculate my estimated calories burned. The number seems MUCH more reasonable!0

That is a very high number. Are you using the chest strap while working out?0

Is that a Timex? From what I have seen Timex tends to overestimate cals burned vs. what you would get with a Polar or Garmin HRM0

Yes I do use the chest strap while i workout. And yes it is the timex one. i have only had it for a week...maybe i'll return it and get a polar one. ive herad a lot of good things about that brand.0
