I am soooooo confused. I run for 30 mins on the treadmill, I'm 46 and weigh 226 lbs.
My confusion I how do I work out my call burned.
Runkeeper tells me it's 188 cals and mfp tells me I burn 426. I eat back my calories and that's a big difference.
Any advice ? Xxxx

What's your incline and speed? That has a lot to do with it. I use a Body Media Core so I don't have this problem.0

Roughly 100 cals per mile will give you a pretty accurate number.0

I like to use Endomondo. I have found the problem with any stationary exercise, it wants to factor in miles for the calories burned.... which I can't enter on my phone, so it is always lower.
I think?? runtastic is the same.. i've only used it a couple of times.0 -
MFP numbers are notoriously high for exercise. The lower one you quoted is probably much more accurate. If you want to be really accurate you can get a HRM, but its certainly not essential.0

I have a fitbit and I find it to be immensely helpful with tracking running/walking type exercise, plus my daily activity. It integrates beautifully with mfp.
The only things I now track seperately are swimming and the occasional weights type workout.
That said, I've heard 1 mile equals about 100 calories, whether your run it or walk it. Before I got the fitbit, I just decreased my total time, like if I walked/ran for 45 min I would put in 30 minutes instead. Hope that helps!0 -
If the treadmill is a regular thing maybe work it into your activity level so you don't need to worry about the burn. If you go to http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ and work out your calories with the correct activity level you don't need to add exercise calories :flowerforyou:0

For a while, I plugged my runs into just about every calorie calculator on the web. Now I use http://www.webmd.com/diet/healthtool-fitness-calorie-counter to calculate my calories in order to check myfitnesspal's estimates. For me, MFP is typically accurate (I weigh 120 lbs and stand at 5'6") give or take a few calories.
Since you didn't provide a pace and/or incline, I just plugged it in as "running (general)" put your weight at 226 and the duration at 30 minutes -- I got 411 calories burned.
Maybe you should invest in an HRM, because the numbers are varying quite a lot here. Good luck!0 -
I had another thought. I don't know how runkeeper works, but does it take into account your weight and other stuff? I mean, a heavier person naturally burns more calories, but if it's simply tracking distance perhaps it would give you a skewed number.0
