Are multivitamins worth it?

I have emergen-c, though I don't take it. And I have some multivitamins I've taken before, I just wonder, are they really worth it?
I take vitamin D every day because I'm deficient, but should I take emergen-c or something else? What are your thoughts?

I'm just going to point out that everything you can find in vitamin pill form can be found in food.
One large bell pepper has over 100% of your daily need for Vitamin C.

One medium Kiwi fruit has 117% of your daily need of Vitamin C

Half a filet of Halibut has 306% of your daily need of Vitamin D

Unless there are a lot of foods you can't eat due to health reasons, I'd save your money on pills and just buy the foods with them in it.0 -
They don't hurt... But if you're eating properly you don't need them, you'll get all your nutrients from your food. Eggs alone are one of the most vitamin packed foods.0

Unless you have some sort of vitamin C deficiency, I wouldn't worry about taking the emergen-c. As for the multivitamin, I would highly suggest it. It is a great way to obtain your necessary vitamins if you happen to come up short on them for the day.0

They do hurt. Overdosing on victims can cause cancer, especially if you take the GNC brand. Most of their brands have 3000% daily Value. Only take vitamins if you know that you're deficient.0 -
When I got a panel of tests done that looked at my vitamin/mineral levels I was meeting or exceeding everything across the board, without taking any vitamins.
I just eat a lot of veggies, occasional fruit, and try to make sure that overall, I'm eating a healthy and well-rounded diet. I do eat some processed foods/microwaved meals, etc., but they aren't the bulk of what I eat.
If you are concerned about your vitamin levels, go to the doctor and have a screening done. They will be able to tell you any deficiencies and then you can either supplement with vitamins specific to that or with foods that will help get your levels up.0 -
I am taking them without a smile but I eat a lot packed with vitamins and even though it show I have enough I seem to be falling short on D and was short enough in iron even with eating a lot of iron rich foods that I have had 3 rounds of transfusions but this time it is holding so I am keeping fingers crossed and taking the extra to prevent the defcit hopefully in D but at 2,000a day I was still short0

Thanks everyone. I might get a multivitamin, but I'll wait for now. Still going to take the vitamin d since I've been tested and it is low, but it's good information.0
