No Calories /nutrition

So there is a new organization called Flurries and they have this Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch that is made from shaved snow bar but has no calories or anything how would you add that to the data base? Flurries is a very new organization we have the only one in the world right now he in California. Also, this is a non-profit business and I thought it was really cool that they donated their proceeds to help people. So I asked about the Calories /nutrition and they said that since they are new right now and just starting off they do not have the money to have a consultant come in and create a nutrition values on these yet. So how would I be able to add this to the data base with no nutrition values?

  • It would just be the composition of each part of the recipe..... There must be flavorings, etc. Generally, the BULK size has how many calories per serving (whatever measurement that is) then divided or multiplied by the amount used.

I would just estimate it based on entries for similar foods (a separate entry per ingredient rather than just looking for an entry that sounds similar to "peanut butter chocolate crunch") that are already in the database. It won't be completely accurate, but it's better than not logging it at all. There really isn't any point in creating new foods for the database if the nutrition facts have not been accurately determined by the manufacturer.

Assuming that it really is zero cal, why make an entry for it at all

By the way this is not a nutrition/bar, this is shaved snow like (ice cream or like a snow cones)? It does have peanuts and some other things that create some kind of crunch to it. So it’s not all shaved ice so I am sure it has some kind of calories/nutrition, even though it can’t be much?

I just looked up the one you had - the ice itself may have had zero calories, but you're going to be way higher than 20 calories with this description of stuff:

"Rich chocolate snow with buttery shortbread pieces, chunky peanut butter sauce, and crushed peanuts."

That's probably a few hundred calories, a large portion of it from fat.

Looking at this pic of the one you had: http://s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/F40LNsb-7ckKQXHxj27KRA/l.jpg You've probably got a couple of hundred calories in shortbread alone. And the ice isn't going to be calorie free, it's got sweetened chocolate added to it as well.

    Is this an advertisement?

I agree, that is WAY more than 20 calories just from the nuts alone as they're very calorie dense. 1/4 cup of peanuts is about 200 calories! Add in the chocolate and cookie bits and you've probably got at least another 100-200 calories.

twinketta, no this is not meant to be an advertisement. I am new to this site and I am trying to figure out how to use this data base and how to account for calories on something we do not know how something is made or can’t find calories/nutrition for them.

Wolfchild59, that is what I thought. Thanks
