New to the Gym

Options
How did you decide on a routine/what to do? I am new too all gym equipment as I have only ever worked out at home and I feel a little lost on how to make a set routine to do when I get inside?

I am interested in starting to lift, but I have no idea where to start at all? Free weights? Machines?

be best to start on machine..pretty straight forward and less complicated to make mistakes that can lead to injury..do a circuit or every body part.. example (chest, back, shoulders, triceps, bicep and legs..) best thing would ask someone that works there..they should be happy to help out a new client :)

I do a combination of Cardio and weights on alternating days. I'd recommend paying for one or two sessions with a professional trainer to teach you a weightlifting routine. That will help you know what to do, how to do it correctly.

If you have a YMCA nearby, they will do that for free if you're a member. otherwise, find a certified trainer on YouTube and copy their moves. Some people here really like the book New Rules of Weightlifting for Women and there's a group here for their followers.

    Good luck!

Ask a trainer at your gym. If you can afford 1 hour with a trainer to show you some good moves for what your goals are, then do your self the favor and buy the hour of their time!
  • A friend of mine suggested I start with this http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jamie-easons-livefit-phase-1.html
    Or http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=712752&page=1

I've been reading them both all day and looking on YouTube for correct ways to use the machines and free weights
