Decided to track cholesterol instead of sugar (because I was sick of seeing those red numbers every day just because I eat a good amount of fruit) and was surprised to find I'm getting next to none in my diet. Is this good or bad?

  • Its a bit of a can of worms -- you need some cholesterol for proper cell building/functioning. Too much of the wrong type and all sorts of bad things happen. But I believe it all boils down to how your body metabolizes the food you eat as to whether consuming cholesterol containing things contributes any to additional HDL/LDL levels of cholesterol (towards the good or the bad) in your body.

Doesn't answer your question, I know, but knowing what your blood mix now is might make things clearer.

Several websites online and your doctor can tell you all about cholesterol. Some people think that if the bad cholesterol is up it is no good, but you have to combine the total cholesterol. Your HDL/LDL and TRIs. The big thing to worry about is your triglycerides count. This is total fat in and through your blood. The others are produced by the liver and proccessed in the body by the type of foods you eat like the person said above in the post. I'm wondering about the diet for your blood type? Has anyone heard about this?
Dr Andrew Weil says to eat a handful of walnuts every day, eat next to no red meat, and take an omega fatty acid tablet up to three times a day, or lechiten supplement if you can't stand too much fish oil taste in the omega tablets. Cholesterol is a combination of heredity, how healthy your liver is, and diet. This is what I know from what I've read. You all may know this. As you know you can be 100lbs with high cholesteorl or 300 lbs with high cholesterol. I do not think a steady diet of milk chocolate (switch to dark chocolate), burgers,(switch to turkey burgers) or ice cream, and pizza helps keep cholesterol down. These were part of my eating habits. Everything in moderation. I think this nation needs to look at the seriousness of cholesterol, diabeties, and depression illnesses. Coronary artery disease is serious, heart disease is serious, diabetes is serious, obesity is an epidemic now I heard in the news. Exercise is a great stress reducer and can help you fight the blues. The number one occupation set to grow as much as 200% by 2018 is a Licensed Practical Nurse. The aging population, our lack of education on what we are eating, and the choices of processed foods in the grocery stores is not enough to keep us healthy. We have to exercise and make healthy lifestyle and food choices. I am on my soapbox sorry......
Organic is always a good choice to go buy because pesticides and other chemicals in our foods can throw off our endocrine system in the long run and cause a host of other problems in the body. Read Jillian Michaels book Master Your Metabolism. On working out I like THE SLOW BURN forgot the author, but if anyone knows of any more good books let me know.

You all may already know this hopefully others can read this post. I have one question for you that started the topic......How do you track cholesterol? I'm learning to read nutrition labels. There is a difference in poly, mono, and unsaturated fats in foods. In my humble opinion the best way to keep cholesterol down is to exercise regularly, eat more fruits and nuts, and lots, and lots of fiber. Have your cholesterol checked every two years and talk to your doctor if you are really concerned.
