If people at Walmart accept you as one of their own only then should you be concerned!

    Love this!

Then we see her outside in their truck and she lights up a cigarrette

When you saw that you should have looked at her, looked at the cigarette and laughed.

In all honesty I'm a bit bolder and if someone did that to me I'd say "Excuse me but do you find something humorous about me?" You'd be surprised at how people back pedal and get flustered when you do that!!

At least until you run into someone just like yourself...

...and then we read about the incident in the newspaper the next day.

I think you are making assumptions as to what they were laughing about. You cannot be sure what it was. I am thinking that you were judging them for being fit and feeling a little guilty about what was in your cart, making you think the worst.

I'm not sure if it counts as judgement but before all this happened I was thinking her size was a good goal for me lol

I know it was an assumption, but it was an assumption that I think had some good backing behind it. Besides my whole point in the post was why does "health" seem to be the reason people claim they judge people for being over weight, when in reality its all about the way someone looks. I'm healthy, and at very low risk of being un healthy. So this just shows me it really is just the aesthetics.

I have no problem shopping at walmart, they are cheap and just a short drive for me.

either saturday or sunday i go and fill my cart up with
lettuce, broccoli, 2 boxes of Cascadian Farms cereal, milk, fat free yogurt, one marketside stuffed crust pizza for sunday night with my room mate, kraft mexican shredded cheese, chicken, turkey and probably a 2 liter or diet coke

I would also like to point out that there are twins on this site

I wonder what people think when my GF and I, both of whom are fit and at healthy weights, are in line at Walmart holding pints of ice cream and boxes of Pop-tarts. I imagine the fatties think we have fast metabolisms and are naturally fit and toned, or something.

honestly I did before I came here and became educated. I thought I was one of those people until I gained weight (easily maintained 120 lbs and stayed in great shape) It never occurred to me that being in sports and all the lifting I did as a requirement of those sports is what gave me my rockin metabolism lol If I had known that I probably would have never gotten as over weight as I did after my pregnancies :p

edit: I'd also like to point out, that I know I didn't KNOW EXACTLY what they were thinking, but I think by their actions it was still pretty apparant the over all judgement.

I'm sorry, but you're upset because you got judged by someone at WALMART?!

Here's how I handle walmart shopping. I strap on my pistol in my good holster with two levels of retention, and then I go do the Walmart walk while open carrying. If someone says anything, I remind them we're close enough to Canada for them to emigrate.

No one at Walmart has anything to say that will ever effect you.

Also, all the digs against Walmart are making me sad  It's pretty much the ONLY place I shop. I'm broke and cheap and there's one right down the block from me. Plus, they have everything I need!

I did find bugs in some lettuce I got from there about two years ago, but other than that I've never had a problem with their foods :ohwell:

Yeah, nobody shopping at Walmart should ever snicker too loudly. Just be glad you have self awareness, no?

I used to feel this way, then I discovered an Aldi's and decent Kmart in the same plaza. My life has dramatically improved.

People throw rocks at things that shine.

I shop at Walmart. I think Walmart is phenomenal. If you hate Walmart you hate capitalism.

In reality, the Walmart hate is just elitism. It's the symbol of low class and corporate "greed" or whatever. It's cool and easy to hate on because it's a big target. Reality is that Walmart is so ridiculously successful because it's so good at giving people what they want.

Once I had a cashier checking my items and she said "...you seem to have a bit of a sweet tooth?" No matter what size you are, people like to snoop in your cart.

I'd judge you both equally. I won't shop at Walmart, I go to Target.

I've never been in a Walmart, but I live in MN and I can tell you Target isn't all you think it is. (Target started here and was part of the Dayton Hudson Corporation). They put a better face on it, but they aren't any better than Walmart.

That said, I am obese and I do not eat junk, nothing processed, no soda, no chips, etc. I make everything we eat from scratch, so someone looking at you and assuming you survive on junk because you are overweight is ignorant. Many people are overweight because of junk, but you can be fat and eat a completely "clean" diet. I am proof of that.

Easy to say let it go, but consider the source, a cliche, I know. But, really......

I think people judge you, but they don't know your story. They have no idea how far you have come or how hard you workout/eat clean on a day to day basis. So who cares... let them judge all they want.

Here's my solution, when you're walking past, start coughing as loudly as you can and screaming MY LUNGS! MY LUNGS at the top of your voice.

I like the eye contact solution though too, just remember, that's a sign of dominance....which is great, unless the other person is dominant too, then you have to fight it out.... It works wonders on the little teenage hooligans in my classroom though, they go belly up in seconds!

I know what you mean, I don't care for fast food much, (although do eat it on occassion if we're in a hurry) and I don't like salty foods much like chips, and as for sweets I prefer fruit over cake. I love a good home cooked meal, and make almost everything from scratch (not in an attempt to eat clean, but just because it taste so much better!) but I kinda love my cooking lol, and that combined with not realizing I was being a lot less active than I used to be, is what got me where I am. I actually eat more ice cream now than I did before I started trying to lose weight (I don't know why but suddenly I kind of really like ice cream :p )

Yup, who was selling $600 ARs and normal priced ammo when everyone went price insane back in December?

Yup, Wally world. That reason alone mkes them good to go in my book. The avg. customer on the other hand... heh.

stop letting silly things offend you. not only did it upset you that day but it has been on your mind since and you have even started a thread about it.

next time just let it wash over you.

Sooo This! Never assume what people think, And never let others make you feel anything! Just focus on you and yours..And others judgments or life choices are just that..Others;-)

Walmart is fascinating and so cheap! Plus they always have a way better variety of some things like yogurt (which my kids eat like its their last meal).

I went on Friday with my DD to buy supplies for a cupcake decorating party - basically we had tons of candy, marshmallows, and sprinkles. Oh and lots of the aforementioned yogurt. Imagine the looks I got! The clerk even asked me what was up with all the candy!

I LOVE to look at what is in other people's carts. I don't like to think I judge, but I am sure I do (certainly not eye rolling and whispering that is RUDE). Sometimes I want to ask people what they are making and get all up in their business...

You should have loudly said, "Can you believe that people still think it's okay to smoke? Don't they care about their bodies at all? So sad!", then walked away with a Cheshire Cat grin.

I know it's hard but try not to let things like this get to you. Like you said she didn't know that you had saved extra calories just for this occasional treat but you do. Just keep doing what you're doing. Let me tell you about an encounter I had with someone at WalMart one day. I was shopping with my 2 grown daughters. I had finished my shopping and was waiting on a bench for my daughters to finish (at the time walking around the store was difficult for me). I had a complete stranger come up to me and start to lecture me on my weight and what I should do to try and get healthy. I was completely shocked that she had the nerve to do this. She didn't know that I had recently lost 25 lbs and was feeling pretty good about myself. (I've now lost 75 lbs and no longer have a problem walking around the store). Why do people think it's appropriate to talk to over weight people like she did? I wouldn't go up to a person I found unattractive and tell them they needed to get plastic surgery. I fumed for days about that woman. Even after telling her off she wouldn't leave me alone. But I know that people like that are not worth my time and I'm not going to let people like that de-rail me from my goals. Weight loss is as much about having a positive attitude as the calories you consume or so I'm told.

For the record - I don't hate Walmart.

It's more about the customers they attract.

I go occasionally for the entertainment. Like visiting a people zoo.

The one by my house - in a decent area, but also currently, unfortunately, the closest one to the "hood" - has clean floors.

But it also has a disproportionate number of drunks, crazy people, stabbings, assaults and one time a guy spray painting his car in the parking lot.
