Exhaustion/Changing!

Hi everyone,
I have been on 1200 cals for about 4 weeks and done really well with it - lost over 10lbs and it was relitively easy - shocker!
My problem now is that ive hit a wall. I'm absolutely exhausted on 1200cals. I've upped my intake to 1500 and am now eating back my exercise calories too, and im prepared for the weight loss to slow down, but i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing? I'm feeling a bit guilty about upping the calories but I got to the point where walking up stairs was a massive chore... decided upping my intake was necessary.

Anyone else had similar issues?

1500+ exercise calories is probably where you are suppose to be, don't feel guilty about fueling your body properly. Your body will thank you for listening to it.

You will store extra waste and water from the sodium when you increase your food, don't freak out, it's not fat.

My Fitness Pal had taken me down to 1200 calories and I had the exact same results. A friend of mine went and met with a personal trainer and the first thing she went over was daily calories. What was happening was the exact opposite of what I was hoping to achieve. I was exercising walking and jogging regularly and by eating only 1200 calories a day I was putting my body into starvation mode which it obviously doesnt like! When you are wanting to loose weight its hard to think you should be having 1500 a day but its working I am down almost 50lbs!

I did exactly the same thing. Although at first I ate 700-800 cals a day, but then I started doing insanity and changed my eating plan to be 6 meals a day, which upped my cals to 1200 a day. I maintained that for the last 4 weeks, and lost 4 pounds, but didn't see any changes. I want to get muscle mass and lose my fat, so I decided to try upping my calorie intake to 1400 ish per day as of this week. I'm a little freaked out about doing it, but as long as I don't start gaining fat then I can learn to be comfortable with it. This is my recovery week for insanity before month 2 starts which I hear gets intense, so I might reassess after next week and see if I should up my calories even more. It's a process, don't feel bad about eating more. As long as you're honest about your logging, you should be fine :)

the goal isn't "see how little you can eat and still lose"... it's "lose with being able to actually eat real food"

the 1200 goal that so many people get stuck with is due to the "2 lbs per week" and "Sedentary" settings that folks put in, when that isn't an accurate representation.

You have to feed the body in order to sustain a great many things.. burning fat is one of those.

I posted about this exact same thing! I was set at 1200 calories too. Some days I can do that, but most days I eat closer to 1350-1400.

Thank you everyone - I definitely dont want to go into starvation mode!
I also find it really weird that the scales are going down but i dont see any change... and yet i put clothes on and the dont fit me... then i look in the mirror and still see no change!
    Just me?
  • Yup!

In March I started at 1200 cals and was SO HUNGRY ALL THE TIME.

Around May I went to 1300 cals - felt better, but wasn't really losing.

In June I did 1400 cals - BINGO! Weight was flying off (1-1.5 pounds a week).

Now that i'm closer to goal, I upped to 1450 so I start eating closer to maintenance. Increasing it a little each week it seems.

then measure and take pictures too.
  • You are doing right. You MIGHT experience a slight weight gain/ or maintenance once you increase your intake but give it a little time and you will start losing weight again. Good luck! xxx
