Nook vs. Kindle

Agree with customer service. Amazon has the best of any company I know. I wish more operated the way they do.0

Well, I can't speak to the customer service at Barnes and Noble. Only because I haven't needed it.0

If you are looking for a dedicated e-reader. I am Kindle girl the whole way. I have enough other e- toys - but I am an AVID reader. My kindle is a single use item and i LOVE That! It does not text, tweet or Facebook. I cannot get emails or make phone calls
all i can do ........is read boooooks.

Kindle!!!!! I have a Kindle 2, my hubby has a K3, and I now have Fire. Amazon's customer service is SUPERIOR! I have over 2000 books in my cloud to read, and the vast majority were purchased for free. And I can easily download books from my local library. And the whispersync between devices (smartphone and Fire) is wonderful. I love that I can read what I want wherever I want, and switch devices with no problems.
My mother-in-law has a Nook and has so much trouble with it. And the customer service is horrible. Our in store people can't answer any questions. And the phone customer service people were bordering on rude to her.
Now, if all you are going to do is read, get a dedicated ereader, like your basic Kindle. I can read for hours on my K2 without any problems. My eyes get a bit more tired on the backlit Fire, and I am more likely to only read for an hour or two before I switch over to watch a video or play a game.0 -
I have the color nook and the basic nook and I love them both. I use the color one to read inside and the other one to read outside since it is easier on the eyes. My sister has the kindle and when we compared she liked mine a lot better. I think they are pretty similar just whichever you would prefer.0

I think if you are only going to read books on it, you should base your choice on which company you'd rather buy books from. I use Amazon for everything, and ordering from them is easy, plus you can share content among your devices. Everyone in my family has a Kindle Fire HD and I also have an older Kindle. They are all awesome and I'm addicted to Amazon.
If I preferred buying from Barnes and Noble, I wouldn't have a problem with buying a Nook.
I'll also add that the Kindle Fire HDs are awesome tablets and my 7-year-old daughter uses hers constantly for reading and playing educational games. Amazon has a subscription service for kids that allows almost unlimited age-appropriate video and book titles for $2.99 a month.0 -
I heard via a tech guru that Kindle is more stable due to Barnes Noble
uncertainty of product .. Idk ..it's what I heard and since I invested in
the kobo 3x for hubby/myself/mum and they no longer exist really ..
I use Nexas7 and there are book avail with it and everything else. Memory
is a whopper too!
I use my Nexus 7 to read my books on too, along with my other two Nooks! I have had no problems with any of my devices and I read a lot of books!!!0 -
I have the simple nook with the night light. I love it - have had nooks for years with no issues(this is my 3rd model). I believe BN is getting out of the tablet business, but will keep the e-readers. As folks have said, there are free books and you can borrow books with both brands. It just comes down to which hardware/website you prefer
If you read a lot, do not get one of the tablet style, whichever model you go with. Get e-ink - your eyes will thank you.0 -
I have a Kindle Fire HD and I LOVE it. I bought it November of last year and have already read tons of books. It's easy to use, browse internet and watch shows/videos.0

If you have an Amazon prime membership, I would absolutely say Kindle since you can borrow books for free. I loved my Kindle 2 until I got my iPad. Now I don't go anywhere without my iPad. I wish they'd let us use the borrow function through the Kindle app but sadly, it's a Kindle only feature currently.0

Definitely a Kindle. Easier to buy books, in my opinion, and they have great sales. Plus, if you like an article on the internet but don't have time to read it, you can send it to your Kindle to read later. I'm unsure if a Nook can do the same. Plus, I love the ink technology. So much easier on the eyes!0

Since I already had an ultra book and a laptop, I went for the Kindle Paperwhite............and I LOVE IT.............it is exactly what I wanted0
-
I picked the Nook because: 1) Local service at the B&N store 2) User replaceable battery (If Kindle's dies, you have to send it in) 3) Expandable memory slot 4) I was able to root the Nook and make it into a typical Android tablet. 5) I also have both the Nook and Kindle reader apps on my cell phone and the Nook is less glitchy 6) Ability to side load pdf files into Nook (Don't know if Kindle can do this but Nook can).
I don't NOT like the Kindle. I just think these points made the Nook a better option for me.
Good luck!0 -
I bought the Nook tablet because it has a card slot to expand the drive space, and the kindle doesn't.
However I think the kindle has more apps available for it.
Other than that, they're very similar. Both HD, both play music and videos, etc.0 -
I have had a sony ereader for approx 3 years and its great. Takes more book formats than a kindle.
What formats?0 -
There are a bunch of ebook formats out there (.epub, .azw3, .mobi, etc). The nice thing is that even if your device doesn't accept a format, there's a good chance you can convert it using a program like Calibre.
One more plug for the Kindle Paperwhite - the built in light system. It's really flexible and works great at night when you're reading in bed. Not harsh, won't disturb anyone else, etc.0 -

Three years ago, there were three Barnes and Noble stores in my 'hood. Now there's one, and it doesn't seem to be doing too well. So (1) might not be an argument for the Nook for much longer...0 -
I use a Nook HD. Really cool device. It can do the my fitnesspal app from the google store. Highly recommended. Read a couple of books on it.0

I love, love, love my Nook!!!!0

I have a Kindle Fire HD and a standard Kindle. Love them both! The standard Kindle is better to read out in the sun but otherwise both are excellent. Amazon will be around forever so go Kindle. A lot of book retailers are tanking as the digital age takes off. I am a bibilophile, I collect ebooks like some women collect shoes & handbags! LOL Free books galore on Amazon, if you have a prime account you can get one free borrow a month or watch movies on the Fire. I have so many books I use a free program called Calibre to organize and convert ebook formats. You can use Overdrive to borrow ebooks from your public library, however the wait time on popular books is atrocious. I plan on being buried with my Kindle I love it so much! :laugh:0

I've used both the Nook and the Kindle and I like the Kindle a lot more. The battery life is longer and it isn't as bulky as the Nook. (My Nook was older so I'm not sure if they have gotten smaller) I know everyone loves their tablets but I would not want to read on a back lit screen all the time. I love that the Kindle is easy on the eyes.0

Kindle is great! I have a kindle touch which is the bomb! But I also read on my iPad with the Kindle app which is awesome too!0
-
Just so you know, the Nook will be discontinued.
So, I would go Kindle

I have a Nook Tablet and love it. My parents have Kindle Fire's and love them. I find the Nook to be more user friendly but the Kindle has a few options that arent available on the nook.0
-
I have a nook but never use it. I wish i'd gotten the kindle because where I live you can borrow kindle books from the library. Still not available for Nook. Well you can borrow an Adobe E-book and do some heavy aerobics to import it to the Nook but it's much easier to do the Kindle library books.0
-
I LOVE my Kindle. I can't read off a lit screen for a long time without getting a headache so a Fire/iPad/Whatever was out of the question. The Kindle is light, easy to load, and looks perfect for reading from. Amazon prices on books are usually pretty competitive, too.0

I have the Kindle Fire and love it0

still love me a good old fashioned paperback, the feel, the smell of the pages, yep , I have a kindle and never used it but once.0

I have a nook and love it. My boyfriends mom has the kindle and I find it harder to navigate. Also, she let her grand kids play with it and ended up being charged for a bunch of games they had purchased because she couldn't figure out the security settings.0
