fitness tracker help

I finally decided I want to get a fitness tracker and dId some research but I'm having a really hard time making a decision. I"ve got it down to Bodymedia Core or Fitbit one. I was leaning towards The Core because my first priority is knowing how many calories I'm burning and as far as I can tell, Core is the only one that measures your actual expenditure. I'm not sure how Fitbit measures burn since it doesn't actually touch your skin, I'm assuming it's some sort of calculation based on age, weight and activity.

For that reason, I don't understand why Fitbit is better liked when you look at all the reviews. Is it mostly about the monthly charge? I don't care about that as long as it gives me the information I want. The reviews do say that Core is the most accurate for calorie burn but Fitbit seems more popular with users. Am I missing some important info?

For me it was about getting something I would actually wear and incorporate into my daily life. The BodyMedia armband was just not something I was going to wear all of the time. I ended up purchasing a Fitbit Ultra which is very similar to the Fitbit One. I just recently upgraded that to a Fitbit Flex which I love. It is a very wearable wristband that is attractive enough that I don't mind wearing it all the time and since it is water resistant I rarely have to take it off. I only use my Fitbit Flex to track regular daily activity, I still use a Polar HRM to track my actual workouts.

Have you looked into the fitbit flex????? This is worn on your wrist. I am in the same boat, I would like to have something as well. I have the bodybugg by Apex however it is so "big" and with the heat ..... and don't want the tan line on my arm.... I would also like something waterproof as I work in aquatics.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with the Fitbit One. I ordered it through QVC so I can try it out for a month and see how I like it.

I just ordered the Fitbit One as well. It should be here by 7/25/13. I will sync it to my iphone 5. Wish I could sync it to my computer but my Windows unit does not have bluetooth.

When you get yours up and going, email me what you think. I am a slow learner and could use the directions/tips you gain during the first weeks. I have just lost 10 pounds on the easy Medifast plan and while I continue, I am beginning to move finally. I plan to stick with walking at first, so I will be using the steps and stairs functions a lot. I am curious how it monitors all the other movements someone does during the day besides the formal exercise portion of the day.

Good luck! Hope to hear how you do setting it up and using it at first!

I purchased the Fitbit One rather than the Flex because I don't like the feel of something around my wrist. I like it very much, am thinking about getting the Fitbit Aria scale, too.

However, for gym workouts I have a Polar cardio monitor ... the Fitbit is for me more of a general activity and sleep monitor that does act as a motivator.

The Fitbit One comes with a dongle that plugs into a USB port on your computer (which all computers except really old ones will have), and the Fitbit talks wirelessly to the dongle, not to your PC. (actually, it's not a dongle in the formal sense but that's what the company calls it ... and for those who haven't heard the term before, yes, it's a valid technical term. :))
