hi there,
so recently, I've been purging more often. It's triggered by stress and anxiety. I do not wish to develop a serious eating disorder. Any suggestions or resources?
thanks

You already have a serious eating disorder. Please get help.0
-
how does one get help? I'm truly seeking the light. I just don't know where to look0

Talk to your doctor, s/he can refer you to a therapist.0
-
Talk to a Physician0

"Purging" indicates a need for help. "Purging more often" indicates a need for immediate help. Please talk to your doctor. :-( Good luck.0

Jess 6742 is right - You need to go and see your doctor who can refer you to a therapist who can help.
You need to make sure you are 100% truthful when you see your GP too so they can evaluate the severity of your eating disorder.
Good luck

Don't know where you live, but around here the local health departments have registered dietitians on staff that you can make an appointment with. That would be a good start. Then if they thought you needed a referral to a mental health specialist they could make a referral for you. Good luck.0

Psychiatrist and/or psychologist for cognitive based therapy. they can work with you to intentify triggers, help you create healthy coping skills, and if needed, prescribe medications0

thanks guys. I usually do it 1-3 times a month. but I did it twice today and I fear it's becoming a habit. I don't qualify as having an eating disorder yet, but I don't want to sit back and wait until I do0

Hey! I think it's great, and brave, that you are asking for support (which means you're willing to recognize a problem and face it, which is hard). You might visit these two websites, which can point you in the right direction for getting help both online and in your community:

Best of luck in your recovery! We all have weird neurotic unhelpful things that we do; some of ours are just more destructive than others! No judgement!0 -
See a doctor for an exam and talk to them to see if they can refer you to a psychiatrist0

I think you will find that you do qualify. Good for you for asking for help. Please take good care of yourself.0 -

You came to us on the boards for a reason. You know something is wrong. You'll need help to make it right. I agree with the others. Get to a doctor ASAP. Also, you might want to check out an OA meeting. You will find other people going through the same thing as you are.0

Good for you for asking for help. That's the hardest part. If you feel that you can't stop on your own, please talk to your doctor, or someone in your life that you can trust and together you guys can find you some help. You can get better, stay strong!0

Look to see if there is a community mental health agency in your area or have your family doctor refer you. When I was in practice at a community mental health agency, we would often see individuals with body image and or eating disorders. Most community agencies will take either insurance or will work on a sliding scale fee if you are worried about the financial aspect of getting help. This tended to be a stumbling block for some of my clients. Good luck and get healthy.0

thanks for the support guys. I'm sorry for posting it here, it's probably not appropriate. but I didn't know where else to go0

Don't apologize. Say goodbye to guilt. I agree with everyone - get professional help, and you'll get through this. You were brave to post it, and you already took your first step. One step at a time. Call your Dr. or a hotline. You can do this. Imagine being free of this disease. That's what it is - whether you purge a few times a month or a few times a day. But, the fact that you're not far gone means you can overcome this that much sooner. Believe in that. Please get professional help. Good luck and God bless.0

Honey don't worry about posting it on here it was a reason God had you to put it on here. I have a cousin who dealt with this and still battles with it today. It starts off slow but it will begin to take over your life. I am praying for you and call one of those hotlines or if you like I have a magazine and she wrote an article about her issues. www.woman2womanmagazine.com go there and you can find her article and you can comment and it will not appear and I will forward it over to her and you two can talk. She wouldn't mind at all.0
