Staying on Track

Hi! How do you stay motivated? I have been dragging, tired, and chronically exhausted, and I find that all I want to do is EAT. I have let myself gain 10 pounds over the course of 5 months and I feel discouraged and upset, etc.

I just feel like giving up and giving in.
Thoughts?

I do my workout in the morning. I wake up, put on my clothes. And head downstairs to hit play. Working out from home is a big plus. I don't have to spend time driving to the gym. And when I'm done, I have breakfast and get the day started. I also go for at least a 30min walk in the evening. I see the numbers going down, and it makes me happy. I know I'm succeeding so I try my best. Hang in there!

You sound hungry. Are you eating enough for the effort you're putting in?

When I first get up and grab my coffee I have a little talk with God. I ask for the usual things, health, family, etc. But I ask for his guidance and help with the up comming day. So far its worked.

Is there any way you can "give in" a little? Like, I have a cheat day once a week where I can have whatever I want. I'm still losing, so even if one day a week is "bad" I'm good for the rest of the week, doing lots of cardio and eating my veggies.

Another motivator for me is a nice piece of clothing. Either I'll say "If I lose X lbs, I'll go shopping for a new X" or I'll already have a piece of clothing thats too tight now and I'll hang it in a place where I can see it. Like, I've got a slinky yellow dress on my couch right now, just waiting for a smaller butt! I hope I can wear it to my birthday party in November.

And if you do something you regret, it's okay. Just dust yourself off and try again. That's the part that matters.

Best of luck, and you can do this!

If you give up now how long will it be before you are so disgusted with yourself that you gained another 10 pounds? Then another 10? Then another? At what point is feeling good going to become important to you? If you are always exhausted you need to make some changes: more rest, more exercise, eat better. If you don't make changes you will never feel better and always feel lousy. Your choice.

This! BEST jumpstart motivator is looking at old fat pictures and reminding myself why I NEVER want to go back!

    Other things that help me:

    -Reading through MFP Success Stories
-Doing everything in moderation. (I eat everything, even pizza and chocolate, but in moderation. If I'm really craving a particular food and I can't eat anything else that day, I'll log that food into my diary for the next day and plan around it so that I'm still under my calorie goal. The fact that I can look forward to eating it the next day helps ease the craving!)
-When I really don't feel like working out, I can usually convince myself to exercise by "promising" myself that I'll just do a shorter, easier version of my workout. 9/10 times I "get in the mood" for my normal workout about 5 minutes after I start, but even when I end up only doing the easy version, it's still better than sitting on the couch!
-Making new fitness goals that have nothing to do with food or weight loss. (I made a goal to become a better runner and run a 5k for the first time in my life! The new goal kept me motivated because it shifted my focus!)
-I save 100-300 calories most days for a dessert at the end of my evening! When I have good days and eat according to my pre-planned diary, I get to enjoy my dessert...guilt free! Something to look forward to every day!

Get your sleep! Seven or eight hours a night. At least! I go to bed in my workout clothes, so I'm ready for our morning walk! You got a lot of good responses to your question. You're a wonderful person. So keep on keeping on! We are all rooting for you! You be your own best cheerleader! I'll pray for your motivation to come back.

I hate to admit that I need this kind of crutch, but I'm on a program that I pay for. It's just too expensive to cheat!

If I don't want to work out - I do. Then my mood changes ten-fold.

Don't over think it, just DO IT. Do something. Anything. Move.
