Losing weight with food phobias?

Hi there, i just signed up to this today as i am desperate to lose some weight. I have about 40lbs to lose. However my big problem is my food phobias get in the way. I dont eat fruit or veg, i dont eat many healthy foods actually. I have about 8 meals i can eat. Meat wise i like chicken, pork, beef, tuna and turkey, i also eat dairy products, but i usually substitute meals for chocolate. I really want to break out of these habits and really want to try new things but there's a mental block and i just panic. Will i be able to lose weight just eating the things i mentioned? Any tips on how to get over these ridiculous fears?

Many thanks in advance :) x

Good luck, but I have to honestly suggest professional help. There are therapies for phobias and we aren't really qualified to help.

    1. make sure you're getting all the things your body needs, i.e. protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water

    2. stay within your calorie goal

you can lose weight, even if you can't eat various foods for any reason

that said, I do agree if your food phobias are causing you so much trouble (i.e you're actually panicking about food, it's not just that you don't like them), then a psychologist may be able to help you deal with them better.

If you have ACTUAL phobias, see a psychologist. If you are just being picky, be a grown up and get over it.

I agree with the above poster. I have no patience with adults who are picky eaters. We can all learn to eat healthy if we want to. If you truly panic, you need professional help.

Thank you all for replying :) I've been to my doctor who has referred me on to a psychologist to deal with it but sadly its a 6 month - 1 year waiting list so was just kind of hoping for tips while i was waiting :) I really wish i could just "get over it" but it doesnt seem to be that easy. I will just portion what i am eating just now and keep sugars and things to a minimum. Thanks again :) x

See if you can find another one? And in the meantime, google for help - try things like progressive desensitization.
