Help! Gained a stone on 1200 cals a day!!

Hi so i'm 16 and 5 ft 3.
Last year i was restricting to 500 calories per day for a while and i got to 91 lbs (6 st 7) and i knew it was unhealthy and if i didn't eat more i would eventually just get sicker and sicker so i upped my calories, knowing that i would probably gain weight from straining my metabolism so much. I started eating 1200-1600 everyday for several months and i still maintained at 91 lbs somehow. But in the last month i've all of a sudden gained a stone!! So i've started eating no more than 1200 per day but i'm still gaining! I only checked yesterday and i was at 7st 1 and i weighed myself this morning (after going to the toilet) and now i'm 7 st 7! :noway: How can i of gained 6 pounds in one day of just eating 1200 calories? I'm terrified because i'm eating so little and i don't want to go lower than 1200. How is it even possible? I'm pretty accurate with counting calories and such, and i eat mostly natural foods, healthier than most teenagers (i'm vegetarian). I've been to the doctor and they've scheduled a thyroid test and a blood test for me so i'll have to wait for the results for that, but i'm freaking out! :explode: Can anybody give me any advice/support?

Advice. You're 16, you shouldn't be on this site to begin with. Go talk to your parents please.
Keep talking to your doctor and be honest with your parents and doctor.

Stop looking for online advice from total strangers.

    ^^THIS

Your not eating enough to begin with and aren't old enough to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle...TALK TO YOUR PARENTS!!

    Precisely.

Please don't take this as any kind of nastiness but go talk to your parents, your doctor, a counsellor. Anyone you trust to listen to you.

And leave mfp. There are a lot of people here who use the site to be very sarcastic, use black humour and others who will just be very, very blunt. You will not feel supported.

Go, go away and talk to someone who knows you and loves you and can support you properly.

    1. A stone is 14 lbs, not six.

    2. You're growing. Stop obsessing over your weight. Any of us would kill to be sixteen and your weight. Enjoy your great, healthy body before you screw it up with dieting.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a nutritional expert og doctor, but this is from I have experienced and read over a period of 20 years.

When you eat as little as 500 kcal daily, your body is struggling to get by just to breathe, move your muscles, walking etc. Your body needs energy, but sadly it doesn't get that energy from burning fat, but from burning muscle. So when you eat that little, you are basically eating your own muscles resulting in a being skinny fat. You may be lean, but you will have lost a lot of good mucsle that not only makes you look great, but also gives your energy to live a good life.

The thing is: muscles burn calories and boost metabolism, so when you start eating somewhat normally again, your body will have so little muscle that it can hardly burn the food you eat, thus storing it as fat. After all: you have been starving it for a long time so it is desperate to hold on to every single calorie you eat just in case there is a selfinduced famine once again.

You said you got down to 91 lbs - which -as you know is waaaay too low for a person of your height. Your current weight seems much healthier and even on the low side. So I would not recommend you lost any more weight AT ALL.

I would focus on eating for HEALTH at 1500-1800 kcal daily and building muscle. You are a teenager, and you need to grow a HEALTHY body, not a skinny body.

i agree with the previous comments but wanted to add... you can not gain 6 pounds of fat in a day. time of the month, eating salty foods, natural fluctuations of the body, all contribute to our weight. I know people who gain as much as 8 pounds during their period. then it goes just as fast as it came.

having said that... yes, please talk to your parents and a doctor.
