Tony Little Gazelle

While looking for an affordable elliptical or stationary bike I found a gazelle for $20 which is an excellent price. It is basically in new condition.
However, it seems to get mixed reviews. I like that is is low impact but I don't want to "waste my time" (which is what some reviewers said they felt like they were doing). I understand any movement is better than none but would 45 min on this thing give me a good enough work out to be worth it?
Here is the model she is selling:

Thanks!

I had access to one for a bit, it was fun. I know some that love them. I get bored easily though0

I used a gazelle once when I was younger. I got on. I figured out how it worked. I watched TV while I used it. I think I went through a couple full shows before I realized I was on it. No sweat broken. No exercise had. You would do better to buy a $20 box of dumbbell weights with your money.
The gazelle will be used a few times by you and ignored. Then once by your drunk uncle Tony, which will break it. Did I mention they're flimsy?
Join a gym and use the hell out of it. Utilize the weight room, cardio room, aerobics room, pool, short term babysitting services, etc.0 -

Hmph. That is what I was worried about. I have heard some people say they loved it and you could get a good work out with it and others say it is literally like doing nothing at all, hence the waste of time I hear.
I would LOVE to join a gym but it is going to be a while until I can afford it. The local one (which has a swimming pool woot) is $136 for the year, which isn't bad but it is hard for me to get that much money at once. I work part time from home and am a full time student. I get paid a very small check once a month and it is pretty much gone before I even get it. The gym said they could work with me as in I could pay half now $68 and pay the other half in 30 days. If I am lucky I might get a good enough check next month that I can do it. I have my fingers crossed.
I guess I won't waste the $20 then, bummer.

Talk to your local YMCA and try to set up a "low income account". You may satisfy their requirement and get a free/discounted membership. If you live in Belleview, FL like your profile says your closest YMCA is on Ocala.
Marion County YMCA
3200 S.E. 17th St.
Ocala FL 34471
A little mapping from the center of belleview says it's about a 20 minute drive. Would that be too far for you?
Alternatively, you can get a set of 40lb adjustable dumbbells for about $20 at WalMart and use fitnessblender.com for your workouts.
Just throwing out a few ideas.
(Also, I hope the little bit of data mining doesn't freak you out. It was just in your profile is all.)0 -

LOL I don't mind at all. I do the same thing and probably freak people outYes, I thought about the YMCA but it is too far. If anything I'd be able to go twice a week. That is 80 miles right there. I basically put in enough gas now to get my kid back and forth to school and drive my husband around to look for work.
However, I could definitely use the idea of spending that $20 extra I have better!!
Thank you so much for all of your help, as always Aak, you are the best.
and your icon always puts a smile on my face lol

I had one for a while a few years ago. I think I just have a jacked up stride or something but my left hip joint would hurt for days and days after only about ten minutes on it. It was free so luckily I wasn't out any money.0

Just go run. You can get your first pair of decent sneakers for about $50. Don't like running? Try the couch to 5k plan. I love running, and I used to be terrible at it. The best part? No one can ever jack up the price unless you want to treat yourself to fancier gear.
And everyone sucks at running at first...0 -

Same women's running shoes will be $5-10 at a thrift store if you can find your size. Just sayin...
(Sadly, this trick doesn't seem to work for guys in my experience.)0 -

I can't run due to my knee issue. I do already walk quickly, just wanted a lower impact option that would still burn a lot of calories.0 -
We used to have one years ago in the house. It's easy to use but it's not much of a workout. BUT, I found it would frequently lift if I got into it too much (and I was not very strong).
Is there a community pool you can swim at? The outdoor one near me is only a couple of dollars. That's a good low impact option.0 -

Wow! That is scary! Thank you for sharing your experience. I am just going to say no for the moment.
Unfortunately, I live in a small town. So the nearest community pool is a good 20 miles one way. I would loooove to swim. My favorite work out and I always lose the most weight when I do it. I am going to try and save up and get a gym membership. If all is well I should be able to by June 10th. I hate the wait, I am impatient but going eventually is better than not going at all. They have a huge pool too (albeit heated, which I hate).0 -

Sometimes it's too easy to say "just go run". Some of us can't run! Or jog even because of joint problems. Remember that everyone is not 21 years old or even healthy enough to run. Right now, if someone told me to run for my life, I don't know that I could get far enough to do the job. Sad, but true.0 -

LOL Same here. I know I can jog, but I haven't since my knee injury. It is too worrisome and NOT worth it to ruin it again. I am 28 but I have defective knees it seems. Plus a lifetime so far of being overweight hasn't been too kind to them, I'm sure. I just ignore the "go run" stuff because I know my body and I know I am not able to now. Maybe once I take off a good 50 lbs I'll give it a go.0 -
I enjoy using my Gazelle Freestyle. I get a good sweat going after about 15 mins or so. Try not to let Others opinion discourage you from trying new things. And for $20 I'd be all over that Gazelle! That's awesome buy! I paid full price for mine...and you're right, any movement is better than none. Keep a positive attitude & you'll do/be fine.
SN: I'm hoping MFP adds the Gazelle to their calorie section to make it easier to log. Granted it comes with a built-in monitor for calories burned etc. Just would be nice to have a selection for 'Gazelle'. :smooched:0 -

I just got done on my Gazelle Freestyle I got at a garage sale for 30 bucks with no computer sadly. I do 60 mins a night, I have added 5 lb leg weights and as I choir member, I do all of my rehearsals while Gazelling. By the time I have finished I am soaked in sweat. I am due for a double knee and 1 hip replacement, so running etc is out for me. There are opinions on both sides of the issue. It works for some, and not for others. As far as me goes, with my physical problems this is the best way for my cardio. Just my opinion.0 -

Hi Everyone,
I got a reply from the Tony Little Fan Page on Facebook in regards to the Calories burned, in case anyone else was curious...
"WitchyOne Martinez
Hi Tony....this question is for anyone. I just recently started using your #TonyLittleGazelle & I also use the app called My Fitness Pal...and when I log in the calories burned it nearly doubles what it shows on the Gazelle monitor...I do 30 mins and the Gazelle says, 231 & the #MyFitnessPal app says 552 calories burned. Which one of the two is true? I've been logging it as 231 calories burned. Thanks so much!

Tony Little Fan Page Hey hope I can help ! Monitors on exercise machines give approximate and app probably takes in your individual statistics which may prove to be more accurate , but I don't know app
But burning more calories is always better for sure
Best tony

WitchyOne Martinez The App & the Gazelle are both great tools! Guess I'll just use what the app says, just didn't wanna give myself 'false hope' thinking I've burned 552 calories giving me a lil bit more room to have an extra snack at night...we'll find out for sure once the weight starts decreasing. To date, I've lost 55 lbs without the Gazelle, so I know adding the Gazelle to my diet and exercise I'll continue to improve the weight loss. Thanks for replying!
