Hi,

I recently bought a juicer in hopes of getting rid of my college weight and get healthy.

I've been slowly introducing it with solid meals (havent gone to juice only diet). for about a week. I've been tracking my calories on MFP again for three days. I seem to have gone up in weight and finding the exactly juicing calories are difficult as the receipes already submitted arent the same as I made and adding the ingredients seperatly is not going to work at it includes the whole fruit or vegetable pulp and all.

I don't know why I've gained and don't know what to do about tracking... please help.

Just crush up some vitamins and mix it with sugar and water. It's the same thing.

I'm not an expert on juicing by any means, but my understanding is that the vast majority of calories from whole fruits and vegetables is in the juice. Most of what is left is fiber. So you would probably be safe just using the calorie count from the whole fruit or vegetable, but not the fiber count.

juice fasts are just another fad diet. don't waste your time by just consuming juices and nothing else.

I juice occasionally if I feel I am not getting enough greens or veggies.

My former boss who is the Nutrition Director at Loma Linda Hospital in Murrieta, CA started a video series on juicing. She is an RD and lost quite a bit of weight juicing. She's easy to watch and has a very friendly and informative approach - you feel like you're sitting across the table talking with her. #thejuicylife

Yeah, juicing is great if you want to lose all that pesky muscle weight while maintaining a good deal of your fat weight.

I replaced breakfast with a smoothie. It keeps me under my calorie goal for the day.

There are groups on MFP that are dedicated to juicers if you'd like to look their for mentors :)

Use the calories from the veggies/fruits you're juicing. Just be wary of fruit - the calories can add up and really spike your blood sugar. I recently broke a plateau by adding in a juice in the afternoon. My "go to" juice is: kale, celery, spinach, cucumber, lemon, and ginger. It's quite sour, but I think it's delicious. It helps me avoid snacking and keeps me going until dinner.

I usually have a juice for breakfast (1 orange, 1 apple, 1 peach). It tastes good and gives me a little boost. I tried juicing every meal and lasted 7 days, lost 9 pounds, but gained it all back once I ate "real" food again.

Gotta agree with this. Posting this in the general forums is just asking for everyone that DOESN'T juice to pop in and say "no, just no" and bring their funny .gifs

Which, by the way, where are those .gifs? I was hoping to see some really good ones

I use the recipe tab. I list all the whole fruits I use and then divide it out. I usually make more than I can drink at one time.

Becareful when you juice because you may not feel as full, so you have a tendency to drink more than you usually would, thus more calories. I juice when I don't feel I am getting enough veggies in my day.

Here's a tip: Ignore the ones that think fresh juice is the devil, especially the ones with the diaries full of edible food like substances in lieu of fresh actual food.
