I am about to order pizza for the family and wanted to check how many calories were in it so I could see if I can have a slice. The website says 1 slice of medium pizza is 200kcal. Is that the same thing as 200 calories? When I google it, I get that 1 kcal = 1000 calories, but there is no way that a piece of pizza is 200,000 calories! It may be bad, but it is not that bad!!

kcal is a term typically used in the UK, as it is denoting a\ unit of energy that is 1 kcal = 4184 Joules (an energy unit). If it says it is 200 kcal, it is 200 calories, which is equal to the aforementioned quantity of joules.

Sweet thanks! That means I can have 2 slices and not feel bad at all!
  • I Just looked it up and it looks like 1 slice of a med cheese pizza is 200 cal
  • Ditto. "kcal" is usually used in physics and engineering. It is equivalent to a dietary "calorie".
