Nutella is bad food ?

I am honestly astonished at how little our society knows about nutrition. We do not teach it in schools or study it on our own, regardless of easy to access, good information being everywhere. The items that companies manage to sell as healthy items, without society at large calling them on their BS, are astounding.
One tablespoon on Nutella packs 95 calories and has 10.5 grams of added sugar (you shouldn't consume more than 15 grams of added sugar per day), no vitamins, 2 grams of saturated fat and very little protein. It is the exact opposite of a healthy food.
Is eating a tablespoon of Nutella better than eating a Hershey's bar, sure, but it is not even close to a healthy option and never will be. It is candy, pure and simple.
If you want a somewhat healthy option, buy a low sugar, high cacao dark chocolate bar that has hazelnuts in it and breaks into squares, or buy plain hazelnut butter, no salt or sugar added, and mix it in a food processor with very low sugar, high cacao dark chocolate and maybe a couple of dates (for natural sweetness) and make your own spread.0 -
I'm with the "no such thing as a bad food" crowd. Unfortunately, Nutella is no longer allowed in my house because I can eat an entire jar in less than 24 hours.
If you want a lower-sugar, more "natural" version of Nutella, also try Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter. Absolutely heavenly!! And it is sold in single serving packages so I won't go overboard!0 -
I really enjoy Peanut Butter &Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams. The flavour profile is similar, but with peanut butter over the palm oil.
AND you have Grumpy Cat as your avatar. I think I like you.0 -
The first ingredient is sugar.0

I had Nutella last week and it was great. The best part was it wasnt really Nutella. It was a recipe to prepare cauliflower to make it taste EXACTLY like Nutella and boy was it GOOD!
:laugh:0 -
Stir a spoonful into plain Greek yogurt - delicious!
Definitely putting this on the to-try list! I do love Nutella spread on toast too. I don't have it often but enjoy every last morsel when I do!
ETA:try Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter.0 -

Delicious, but not nutritionally dense. But still delicious.
I like a Nutella and peanut butter sandwich before a race. Yum.0 -
Get on a train. Take it straight to Geneva. Walk directly to Le pain de quotidien. Buy their version of Nutella. Enjoy.0

Sardines are bad food!
Nah-uuh! I love Sardines!
I lurveeeee Sardines!!0 -
There really should be rehab facilities for Nutella Addicts. Once I allow myself to indulge in purchasing a jar (the small jar only), it's very very difficult for me to limit myself to one tablespoon at a time. I'm a hazelnut freak, I just love the flavor no matter what. Is it healthful? No. It's not going to improve your health, it won't prevent you from getting ill, nothing like that. Is it a better snack than a boxful of Twinkies? Yes. As an occasional indulgence (and since it is so often paired with fruit), it's a nice little treat. If you can keep yourself in control. And that's a big 'if'.0

I found a jar of nutella i'd completely forgotten about, and just plunged my finger right in there and had a fingerful of nutella. it was VERY unhealthy. bordering on just plain rude.0

I think Nutella is like peanut butter, It's wonderful food, and probably should be in moderation. It's almost like a marriage of my favorite foods, so if I were to indulge, I'd eat a good part of the jar instead of the serving suggestion. How come everything good is bad in large quantities????0

I just remembered! I made my own chocolate hazelnut spread one time after seeing it on Everyday Italian. I used that egg, sugar, and baking soda mix as a substitute for the sweetened condensed milk and it was really yummy. Probably still not the absolute healthiest thing, but homemade is usually better than store bought. Plus it's fun!0

I honestly have never had it, yet from the comments it sounds addictive.0
-
It's overly processed- highly caloric, and over sweeten
Try to find rawtella its a healthier alternative
This! Rawtella is a great alternative!0 -
No food is bad food!
Unless you're talking about sardines. Sardines are bad food!
If you're able, get a fresh sardine and simply grill or pan-fry it. Sardines are AMAZING fresh--I think Alton Brown's part of a whole movement trying to stop people's revulsion towards sardines.0 -

Found the recipe!

It's got a lot of sugar so I wouldn't personally consider it a health food, but it is amazing on crepes.0

Nutella is a lovely food! (If used in moderation).
I unfortunately have an insane desire to eat the entire jar when I open it so none in my house except if I fully intend to eat the entire jar.
Ha! Same here. I can't get enough of it.0 -
If you think nutella is hard to moderate you should try cookie butter.0

<<< LIES IT'S ALL LIES *running away crying*
Seriously didn't we already establish in another tread that Nutella is crack?0 -
Ugh, I bought Kroger's hazelnut spread made with skim milk (160 cals for 2 tbsp). And it was gone in two days. Given the last 1/2 cup went into cookies, still. I feel so bad for it! I was finally getting where I wanted to be and then BOOM! binge on freaking 'nutella'. Another lesson on fighting temptations for the sake of not having to go through set-backs.
Like a lot of the other MFP posters have said, there's no bad food. It's all about moderation.
But Nutella (such a sweet, chocolately, smooth, yummy, easy to eat kind of thing) is definitely a 'trigger' food for me.
The first couple of times I used the hazelnut spread, I was a good girl and measured and such, but then I kept going back for more, then finally what the heck! and just didn't care about measurements and just ate it.
And it was the big jar, too. :sad:0 -

The philosophy that has been working for me is to eat a moderate serving of the food that I really want. I want to have a tablespoon of the most delicious option on my small bowl of high fat yogurt, and then stop. I don't want to eat something I don't even like and pretend that it's a treat.0 -
There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. This goes for food as well.0

"Bad" food?
Did Nutella kick a puppy dog?
Did Nutella get anyone fired from their job?
Did Nutella sleep with someone else's partner?
No?
Then no, Nutella is not a "bad" food. Eating Nutella by the jarful every day might be a bad practice, however.
....i could get fired for Nutella addiction...0 -

The term "bad" is subjective. If you are asking if it is high in calories and sugar? Then yes. If you're asking if it's sinfully delicious..yes. But in no way is it a super food or going to add any benefit to your nutrition. Just maybe a satisfied sweet tooth.0
