    i notice that snacking at my desk never ends well. i would advise eating better rounded meals to prevent eating at your desk and drink fluids to avoid getting cravings.

    for me: eating at my desk means I'm mindlessly eating and not paying attention to my portions.

    I know you're looking for snacky ideas, but maybe you should try making a meal schedule. most companies give you two 15 minute breaks per 9 hour day. try breakfast then break then lunch then brak then you get off work. i eat every 3 hours, luckily with my job i just get up and go to the breakroom and eat, but it's not this long sit down enjoy my time kind of thing its more of heat my food, sit and eat it and then clean up and go back to my desk. hope this gives you an idea

    but you can sneak something, what type of snacks would you suggest? I work in a doctor's office and not supposed to have food at your desk, so I am asking if anyone has any good ideas for snacking during that day that I can kinda hide but still get to snack.

    Thank You

    A couple of things: First, learn that YOUR is possessive, and YOU'RE is the contracted form of you are. Next, go to another room to have your snacks.

    umm...I am not seeing the error, grammar nazi. First, learn to correct things that are actually incorrect. Next, QFT. :noway:

    ETA I see now the TITLE is incorrect, but the paragraph is not. The above still applies.

    Baggies of nuts

    I love nuts, but they are too moreish for me and I cannot stop at just a few, they are too high in calories to have as snacks for me :(

    Almonds = 576 100g
    Cashews = 553 100g
    Peanuts (unsalted) 318 100g
    Brazils = 656 100g
    Pistachios = 526 100g

    Really?

    We are "encouraged" to eat at our desks (ha!) and I just literally finished my PB toast and am mowing down a peach for my breakfast.. the only meal I don't eat at my desk is lunch and that is only occassionally.

    Sometimes it is unavoidable!

    Well I see this was a useless post, but thank you.

    Yes I can drink at my desk as long as there is some type of covering on the cup,

    I was going to try having 6 smaller meals, but that will not work I see.

    Nuts are out due to allergies, and would of been a great idea thank you.

    We get a 45 minute lunch break instead of 30 minutes with a break due to the volume in the office, I have 6 doctors and 4 nurse practioners so they decided on 45 minute lunch instead.

    And I asked about snacking because it is a little easier to sneak then having a REAL meal.

    So thank you to those who gave me some idea's.

    I just hide the food in my drawer and eat when nobodys looking! Could you sneak a yogurt? String cheese? Granola bars? BEEF JERKY!

    Getting out of the habit (or not developing the habit in the first place) of eating at your desk is a very good thing. You can use breaks for that.

    What about a protein bar? You can eat one fairly quickly and it will help to keep you full longer. I assume that you can step away from your desk to use the restroom, so you should be able to eat a protein bar (or even half of a protein bar) in that time.

    Thank you, yes looks as though Protein drinks or bars are the way to go. I can step away to use the restroom, so I could just eat it on the way. I was looking to do the 6 smaller meals and see if I can loose that way, thus the reason I was asking for suggestions.

    Thank you for your idea's.

    seriously? have a talk with your bosses about getting a break now and then so you can eat, or get another job.

    if you're not allowed to eat at your desk, then you're not allowed to eat at your desk. So your question shouldn't be "how can i sneak around and still eat" but "how can I get my bosses *the doctors* to understand that some people need to eat every X hours"

    (I worked someplace once as a temp where we weren't allowed to eat at our desk OR drink coffee cause BigBoss once got an orig document from someone that was covered with coffee stains. BUT he told us we can take as many breaks as we need, as long as they are in the break room. and believe it or not, this privilege was not abused)

    This. Workplaces have policies for a reason. Eating at your desk can promote the spread of bacteria from you to patients and from patients to you (when you handle the patient's forms, cash, debit card, etc, then eat your food without washing your hands). It is extremely important in a doctor's office to practice good hygiene practices. Talk to your boss about how you can get a quick snack in a couple of times a day, and wash your hands before and after.

    Grown up answers for the win!!

    I like having a job. I think keeping it would be my goal.
  • The smoothies or protein shakes idea seems best, really. :)

    Or if you get a certain amount of time for a lunch break, you could ask if that time could be split up so you can snack at a different time but still keep the no eating at the desk rule.

    Yes, this! What's going to happen when you get caught sneaking food at your desk?
  • Eat in the bathroom.

    Youre welcome :flowerforyou:

    lol that;s what I was thinking, maybe just stand at the sink? So it isn't as odd?

    I wish I could work there because it totally grosses me out when people eat at their desks in the workplace. Ick.

    I'm assuming you are on some kind of "six tiny meals" plan or something along those lines. But how about having a tiny bit larger breakfast and lunch?

    good thing you're not my coworker then because i eat at my desk every day and i'm NOT ASHAMED! :laugh:

    Me too! I have no choice!

    Also, almonds are good - I also drink a ton of water w/ lemon.

    I can totally see why a doctor's office has such policy, it doesn't look good at all to see a piece of half eaten cake on the desk around sick people coughing and sneezing. if I were you I'd talk to the boss and ask about reasonable breaks for bathroom and snacks.

    Why would you want to? There is a reason you are not supposed to eat at your desk in a clinic where patients are seen. SMH. That's why you get your 15 minute breaks and 30 minute lunchif you are full time. Go eat in the breakroom. It's not hygenic to eat at your desk otherwise.

    Why jeopardize your job, or your clinics ability to operate by breaking the rules?

    :grumble:

    If you're allowed to have drinks at your desk, then a smoothie/protein shake, or just drink lots of water. Also Special K makes a "protein water" drink mix packet that you can add to a 20oz bottle of water

    I think this a great response, I understand why they have the rule. A desk in the basement for an IT employee is different than a front desk at a doctors office (or a financial firm, anyone face to face with public)

    The solution at worst can be a bathroom break
    1) Protein shakes
    2) Protein bars
    3) Single size servings of greek yogurt, beef jerky/sticks, apple/fruit

    At best- they may accommodate short breaks
    - you have already lost 21lbs on your way to 68, share with these doctors what you are trying to do, and I bet they will encourage you to keep going and accommodate quick food breaks (not necessarily 15 min breaks).

    It important to mention one other factor -it could depend on the work habits of the employees in general. If Tammy is "big picture" about this perk and leaves her desk for a snack and returns in 7 minutes (because she is done with the snack) , will another employee ask for the same, leave when it is crazy busy, and look at the clock until its 14min 45 secs before going back to her responsibilities within a 15min period.

    Good luck Tammy

    I would starve if I couldn't eat at my desk. They actually cut out work day by 30 min if we would give up our hour lunch, and just eat at our desks, which I'm fine with. As far as snacks, I have what my colleagues call my "drawer food". Some Fiber One treats, Special K cracker chips, fruit, nuts and always keep yogurt in the refrigerator. I usually have a coffee break around 10am and have a little snack of some sort.

    I have been pondering this one this morning. Do the smokers get "smoke breaks?" If so, can eaters get "eat breaks?" A place I used to work graciously allowed smokers all the breaks they could dream of since they could not smoke at their desks, but of course, I was not allowed as many breaks since I didn't smoke. :smokin: Could the same type of scenario work here? At the doctors office, I wouldn't want someone eating in front of me any more than I'd want a smoker smoking in front of me, so I get the rule about no eating at your desk there.

    It sounds to me that maybe your weight loss has stalled. Since 6 small meals is not an option perhaps you could look at other things.

    I took a look at your diary and it seems during the week you eat a lot of snacks. are those in the evening. I don't see much dinner logged. Also I see that you are eating Dunkin Donuts a lot. I am not judging you because I eat fast food all the time. But maybe you could sub out that breakfast with something else?

    are you being 100% accurate in your journaling? you weekends seem like less food than during the week. I only looked back about a week.

    That's excellent Shelly. Most likely you don't work on the front desk in a doctor's surgery though.

    totally hate it when people eat at their desks, its totally inappropriate. Food gets dropped all over the keyboard.
    Isn't that why we take breaks, so we can eat????
