Toxins = old poop

I clean up poop for a living. I promise you. What goes in must come out. Sometimes I gotta go digging for it when it gets stopped up
so you are the person that cleans the old poop out of the intestine?
I am the one they call....The Poop Gnome

It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.0

As someone who has cleansed, I can say there are reasons to do so (although not as the OP suggested). It plays on the adaption model, where your body is trying to find equilibrium. When you vary the stimuli, in a controlled manner, it allows you to hack your metabolism and accomplish things you wouldn't have been able to otherwise. I don't completely agree with Tim Ferriss, but he had a few things right. You can hack your fat.

Bull****.
Solid material is moved along the intestinal tract via a wave like motion. Here is a wiki explanation of how that works:
Peristalsis is a radially symmetrical contraction and relaxation of muscles which propagates in a wave down a muscular tube, in an anterograde fashion. In humans, peristalsis is found in the contraction of smooth muscles to propel contents through the digestive tract. It is wave contraction of longitudinal and circular muscles preceded by wave relaxation of these muscles. Earthworms use a similar mechanism to drive their locomotion.[1] The word is derived from New Latin and comes from the Greek peristallein, "to wrap around," from peri-, "around" + stallein, "to place".
In much of the gastrointestinal tract, smooth muscles contract in sequence to produce a peristaltic wave which forces a ball of food (called a bolus while in the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract and chyme in the stomach) along the gastrointestinal tract. Peristaltic movement is initiated by circular smooth muscles contracting behind the chewed material to prevent it from moving back into the mouth, followed by a contraction of longitudinal smooth muscles which pushes the digested food forward. Catastalsis is a related intestinal muscle process.[2]
In order for what you say to be true, the old poop would have to be stored in a special old poop storage area so that the new poop could get out. A mechanism would have to exist for diverting all this old poop to the special old poop storage area.
In medieval times, you may have been able to convince me there are intestinal gnomes living in there who ferry the new poop around the old poop. But then I might go witness an execution, and as they rip out the guts I might ask "how would one push something through that muscular tube without first pushing out the existing contents"?
this guy here, i like him, uses his thinkin' space!0 -
Bump to read while on the potty tomorrow0

Your bowel and intestine are on a FIFO system. First In, First Out. New poop can't get past the old poop, it has to follow it.0
-
This doesn't make any sense at all. If you had "old poop" in your colon, how would the "new poop" be able to get through? It's basically a pipe; when there's a block in the pipe, it can't drain. This is what was call constipation. Eventually, though, it's got to come out- and it usually does. If not, medical intervention may be required. But the idea that three month old poop is sitting around while two day poop makes it out okay, somehow skirting around it, is illogical.
ETA: Also, believing in something doesn't make it true. Theories =/= science. I might believe a giant dung beetle pushes the sun across the sky every day, but that doesn't make it reality.
I don't mean to be rude, but I would really like it if one person posting about "toxins building up in the colon" could provide peer-reviewed scientific studies that prove it to
ETA: this generally indicates imminent death without emergency surgery.
Can also happen to humans....also very dangerous0 -
Unless of course you have diverticulosis, in which case you could indeed have "storage units" for your old poop.0
-
Out of curiosity what defines new poop vs. old poop.
Interesting little study here the transit time for tribal people like the Masai is probably 2-3 days where the Western transit time is like 5-7
I think new poop was sweeter, but people didn't like it so now there's just poop classic.

It is a fact that you can hold up to 20lbs of fecal matter in your lower intestines and colon....I take a 100% natural colon cleanse capsule in the evening with hot tea and I have never felt better.....it gently removes plaque and toxins which can cause bloating and digestive issues.....also I have not been sick in forever....probably because my immune system can function properly due to better digestive health I am happy to share, just send me an email, lindsayradzik@gmail.com
Cite sources, please.
I've yet to see one scientific source that confirms all this stuff you've just said. Not a single person, when asked, has been able to provide any evidence to back up their claims about "toxins" or "sludge" or "plaque". In fact, the people who seem to push these ideas the hardest are those who are trying to sell something. In fact, let me take a wild, crazy guess: That email address you've just provided, if people contact you there, you're probably going to try to get them to buy one of those "100% natural colon cleanse capsules", aren't you? Isn't that what you just created that account for?
Let's get down, for real. Please, tell me all about how to achieve optimal digestive health. Time to get down to brass tacks. Please enlighten all of us? You say, "It is a fact that you can hold up to 20lbs of fecal matter in your lower intestines and colon"; fair enough. Show us the scientific studies that show this to be the case. I'm a reasonable person. I am open to learning new things, but I need a bit more than a faceless internet stranger's endorsement.0 -
It's getting to the point where become autmatically super skeptical whenever someone attempts to make a point that starts with "when humans were hunter gatherers"
Because most of the time what follows is something they made up without doing any research on either humans or hunter gatherers.
And also, the average primitive hunter/gatherer had a lifespan of, what? Thirty years?
Average lifespan. That's because 1 in 4 babies die before their first birthdays and 1 in 10 women die in labor. The remaining adults lived into their 70s.
Not a great source, but cites better ones and I'm too lazy to look up actual data to support a stupid point: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/life-expectancy-hunter-gatherer/#axzz2amdPbfFk
I'm pretty sure I said average. Also "the remaining adults" didn't live into their seventies. They could, but this certainly wasn't the norm. In fact, the very article you've referenced says that only 79% of people who survive until age 15 make it to age 45. But more than half of children didn't make it that far.0 -

At the very least, your claim alone is equal to about 20lbs of crap.0 -
So when someone beats the crap outta you....are they professional cleansers? :huh:0

Using "cleanses" that are a stimulant laxative can cause dependence on laxatives. It's more common in eating disorders and the elderly - many elderly believe if they do not "go" within a day they need a laxative - then once all the contents are evacuated they may not go tomorrow - because the intestines are emptied and restocking - so they want to take more laxatives because they are now fearful they are constipated because they didn't go on that day... it sort of becomes an obsession and is very unhealthy. When you become dependent you can't "go" without the laxatives - a true medical issue.
http://www.constipationandyou.com/laxative-dependence
Stimulant laxatives may be natural or produced in a lab. Senna is a popular natural laxative. It is also a stimulant laxative. Not good for repeated use.
Poop can be stuck in the system that is old - as in a partial blockage - but when this happens you generally have liquid stools because what is able to get around it is fluid. That, and it's not comfortable. It can develop into a true blockage, however. It is not very common and doing cleanses frequently can set you up for dependence.
Colon cleansing - may truly just involve eating plenty of fiber, fluids, and some fruit/veggie juice. I would also interject walking helps stimulate peristalsis. I personally consider it unnecessary to do a "cleanse" if you are eating right to begin with you are taking care of it. http://www.livestrong.com/article/345819-how-to-clean-the-colon-of-old-feces/
Undergoing enemas can upset your fluid/electrolyte balances - by pulling water into/out of intestines and electrolytes in/out of intestines. This can make you truly sick. It would depend on if you are using hypertonic, isotonic or hypotonic solutions. Tap water would be hypotonic - therefore can lower your electrolyte levels in your body and make you sick - possibly with risk of death depending on how imbalanced you have managed to become.
Feces may lay in your intestines for a few days or less than 24 hours - depends on what your normal is. This is expected and shouldn't be altered. The purpose of that slow peristalsis moving it along is to give those intestines time to absorb nutrients and water - things you need from the stool. Fiber basically just passes through - holding some water - and possibly some of the dietary cholesterol. It does "scrub" the sides some as it passes through - but if the intestines are working properly there wouldn't be much residue to scrub along. If there is, you likely have a terrible disease and should be under physician care.
If you need references for this - it's nursing knowledge - find a medical book. It's there.0 -

The average hunter gatherer who survived childhood lived to the age of 70 (the majority of the people who made it to 45 made it another 20+ years). The average lifespan was 30 years.
If you look at it from a bell curve point of view, a normal distribution would suggest that, on average, a few people die early, a bunch of people die in their 30's and a few people live a long time. In fact, it's very left skewed. You either die early or you live a pretty normal (to us) lifespan.
Yes, I understand how averages work. Hence my use of the word several times.
Additionally, research done on the subject is limited and dependent primarily on ethnographic information about human beings living as hunter gatherers in present or in recent years. This is flawed, as we are comparing ourselves primarily to other human beings living in other parts of our world, in this current time, and assuming that our primitive ancestors had similar mortality rates. It's faulty reasoning, and only really indicates that people living in hunter/gather societies in modern times have similar mortality rates to the rest of us, provided they survive to adolescence. With regards primitive proto-humanoids, there are far fewer archaeological records available from which to draw conflusions.0 -

Toxins are chemicals produced by bacteria that make you sick. Botulism? That's a toxin. Tetanus? Also a toxin. Chemicals in your poop? Not toxins.
Know why there are chemicals in your poop?
Two reasons:
1) Your body couldn't absorb it anyway, so now you're going to poop it out.
2) Your body DID absorb those chemicals into your blood stream, and the liver promptly kicked them right back out again in your bile, because that's what the liver does.
Do you REALLY, ABSOLUTELY need to cleanse your colon for some obscure reason? Then eat fiber. Fiber keeps everything moving along nicely.
If you want a reference, check out "Mark's Basic Biochemistry." You can find it on Amazon or MDConsult.0 -
Well, technically you could have toxins in your poop if you're infected with certain strains of E. coli or other microbes that produce toxins while living in your gut - Shiga toxin/Verocytotoxin, or similar. In that case, your body will take care of any cleansing needed all on its own, trust me. And if you're lucky, you'll even survive it.0
