My friends and I were out all night driving home, and decided to stop at Ihop. Not the healthiest choice :P. phone was dead so no mfp . So I chose a GARDEN OMLETTE. Literally, tomatoes, peppers, onions mushrooms and cheddar...so i got home and checked....how is that 920 calories?! Crazy. I thought maybe 500 calories and that was pushing it. What are some foods you underestimated?

Macaroni and cheese. It's not fair! :noway:0
-
homemade potato chips :sad:0

Pasta, rice..... Those two are pretty much off limits now. I always knew they were high cal, but its crazy that something so plain, so tasteless, can have double the calories of whatever you serve it with!0
-
Next time you go try getting the Whole Wheat pancakes with blueberries with sugar free syrup. 4 huge pancakes that make me so full I almost bust for about 500 calories.0
-
ice cream... every time I measure it I wonder who the hell invented 1/2 cup servings.0

Metoo!0 -
Anything my boyfriend makes for dinner and some delivery sandwiches, also fast food salads, Also slush drinks like a slupprie.0

Chipotle's chips and guacamole. I would get that PLUS a burrito. My burrito (I don't change it up) is less calories than that!0

Anything that says "healthy". If it has to say it, it's not. Most things that start out healthy are made unhealthy to make it more palatable for marketing.0

Before I knew better I didn't think muffins were that bad, especially if they were fruit muffins.
You are better off eating a cupcake0 -
Breakfast cereal was a big eye opener for me back when i first started measuring food.0
-
I ordered blueberry pancakes and a side of scrapple one time, thinking the scrapple would be way higher, but I was way off.0
-
sweet potato crisps! home made, delicious (imo) AND ANNOYINGLY MOREISH!0
-
peanut butter, those tablespoons add up quick0
-
Granola, only a 1/4 cup serving...wtf?0

Everything is double what I think/estimate it to be no kidding, still learning lessons after one year of counting. What I eat at home I know. It's outside that I have to research beforehand otherwise you get hit with a high number.0

East Side Mario's spaghetti with meat balls (3 small ones) was 910 calories! And waaaay too much fat!0

My grocery store has the most delicious coconut date rolls in the bulk bins. All they have in them are dates and shredded coconut, how bad could they be?
Apparently one roll the size of my thumb is 110 CALORIES. Lord in heaven, I could have 2 fun-size Snickers for not much more than that, and they'd feel a hell of a lot more like dessert.
So much for finding a healthy sweet snack.
I do have to thank my father for raising me to have a healthy relationship with ice cream. Half a cup of ice cream is perfect for me - we used to stretch a pint of Ben & Jerry's to 5 or 6 servings. My fiancé was so confused when I saw these little bitty bowls at Target and squealed that they were perfect for ice cream!0 -
nutella...holy **** I could of had a candy bar for that many calories0
-
its so high because all the stuff in it is fried before its in the omelete0

Not sure if I over or underestimate here, but rice is hard for me to log since the label is typically based on dry rice... who eats dry rice? LOL. Any suggestions on how to calculate? I guess it depends on how much water and how long the rice is cooked. :grumble: I'm on rice eating strike.
It's also hard for me to log Indian food... there are so many spices and a lack of nutrition info available online.0 -

No kidding. Or an ounce of peanuts? who eats 1 oz of peanuts?0 -

Exactly, same with couscous, measures dry but the box ends up making enough for a week!0 -
Almost anything that's a tablespoon. Ketchup comes to mind. I've heard some people on here talk of keeping a measuring spoon on their key chain, and I think that's brilliant.
The good news is, if you estimate a tablespoon wrong, it DOES count, but it can't make a super-huge difference in your day unless you're off by a lot on something calorically dense, like coconut oil or something.0 -
I'm wondering if the calorie count for that omelette is for the entire meal, which probably includes home fries and toast.0

Last night shopping... bottle of water, 750 mls, with a touch of lemon and lime. I had drank half of it, when I noticed the label. 177 calories in the whole bottle. Luckily I had only drank half of it. But still, 177 calories, flavoured water? Are you for real?0

^^This! But I still love nutella and eat it in moderation with graham crackers!0 -
Arby's multigrain sandwiches - the bread alone is something like 500 calories!!0

I was most surprised by how many calories I was eating a day of healthy food. Before finding MFP I started to "eat healthier" and was having things like whole wheat toast and fruit for breakfast, sandwiches/salad for lunch, apples and peanut butter AND carrots and hummus or cheese and crackers for snacks, etc. My first day of logging food on here I almost cried because I thought I was being healthier (which to some extent I was, at least much more so than before), but was still finding a way to eat over 2000 calories a day.0

Bananas! They're fruit, wtf! At 120 calories per, it makes me feel guilty eating a couple.0
