So, after working out since january (5 days a week) i finally got my bowflex ready and started weight lifting last monday! Last night was my 3rd session and it feels amazing! And believe me when i say that im not going easy either! Im so grateful that i didnt get sucked in to the average fibro sufferers state of mind! I work an active job 5 days a week and now with weight lifting 3 days a week, i kno fibro will never stop me from achieving my goals! Take that fibromyalgia!!!

Fabulous! I have a best friend with Fibro and she has been learning her limitations and such. I would love to see her get on MFP or similar and get to tracking and more active. I think it would help :).

Great job on sticking to it since January and still going!!

I have Fibromyalgia also, I run and do some weight lifting too. The hardest thing about Fibro is figuring out when to push and when to take it a bit easier. I think I got it down. You are doing great, keep it up. :flowerforyou:

Awesome! I have fibro too and have been learning lots about what my body likes and what it doesn't. For example, I learned that I can't eat potatoes! They leave me curled in a ball on the couch whimpering with widespread pain. I'm so thankful I figured that one out! My husband is building me a squat cage in the garage so I can lift heavy because I always feel so much better when I'm lifting. I just went grain free this week to see if that helps because I strongly suspect that at the very least I have an issue with corn. Sucks to have no grain but on the plus side I'm feeling good and I've lost 5 pounds in the three days I've been grain free! Gotta like that! Keep up the good work!

Not for everyone, but I found Paleo eating style (I'm not 100% but I try) has really helped with my food problems. When I "cheat" I end up feeling it the next day. Good luck!

I appreciate your comment. I have been fighting the idea of going grain free for some time but have been thinking it was probably the next step for me. I don't do very much dairy to begin with so I'm not worrying about that at the moment but just three days of grain free has already been pretty impactful! Not just the couple of pounds I've lost but feeling more alert with my mind clear, having more energy and less aching overall. I've also noticed my sinuses have been draining. I've got a ton of Paleo resources either on my Kindle, pinned on Pinterest or books from the library that I've been reading. I do think for me at least a mostly paleo way of eating might be the next step. It helps that I love meat and vegetables. :)

ETA: Oh and I cut out legumes at the same time. I'd made some beans for dinner the other day with homemade cornbread as a side and was up for HOURS with horrible stomach pain. That's what finally shoved me over the edge and made me decide to do a kind of "paleo lite".

I also have Fibro. Had it for a few years now and I often do not say it out loud.. I actually don't think I have ever typed it before. Out of site, out of mind right? Well that actually does work 10% of the time. lol. I am still trying to figure things out. Once I thinkI got it down.....turns out I didnt. , I play volleyball and I have recently discovered (very recently) that does cause pain after but I refuse to stop. It does stop me from cleaning some days. hmmm I wonder why that is. :)

I like the title of your post because it cannot beat anyone really. We can only beat ourselves.

Good for you. I'm glad you find you can do so much and I will admit I envy your ability to do. Even half that would put me into a flare for two weeks. I also have fibro, although I admit it quite readily. There is no reason for us to be ashamed of it. I have finally worked out my routine and I'm happy with it and the progress I've made. Congratulations on your successes!

I was just diagnosed with fibro about six months ago, and since then I can't seem to get my workouts right! Always in pain afterwards. Thanks for being a good inspiration!

I'm glad you're kicking fibro's *kitten* right now, but you gotta realize that there are vastly different levels of suffering with this illness, particularly after having it for many years, as it is progressive. There is no "average sufferer" when it comes to fibromyaliga.

Good for you for breaking out the Bowflex, though. :)

Woomytron and knitandponder has found a way to reduce dietary sources
of inflammation, Paleo-style living eliminates wheat, dairy, legumes, and other
    high-glycemic food.

I suggest that folks visit wheatbellyblog.com to understand why
modern grain products are not good for ANYBODY nowadays,

Corn and soybeans are GMO crops, which are not healthful to anyone, either.

Thank you. I know the OP didn't mean to imply we were wimps or something equally silly, but her comment did prick a bit of a nerve. I have been hearing people dismiss my pain for 12 years and I don't like to see fibromyalgics do so. The pain needs to be respected. Everybody has different limitations. But I think anyone on this site with fibromyalgia who exercises is showing how much strength they have. Regardless of how little or much they can exercise.
  • Hi!

I have fibro as well - diagnosed 8 years ago. I agree with most of the posts here that nutrition is HUGELY important in overcoming your symptoms. It's so awesome to hear from others that are fighting back, or FIBRO WARRIORS as I like to call us :)

In March 2013, I decided to take my life back and kick fibro out of my life. I started with a 21 day detox/cleanse, during which I became vegan and eliminated a lot of my trigger foods - coffee being my #1 vice. Haven't had it since. After the detox, I started working out daily. I could barely make it up a flight of stairs - I was in constant pain and was always exhausted. But I pushed play on my program and forced myself to move. And I finished it! Then I did another one - a 20 week INTENSE cardio conditioning program. That's when things REALLY changed. During this program, I summitted 2 13,000 foot mountains. One of the hikes was 8 hours 19 minutes! This was AMAZING.

After the cardio program, I completed a strength training program. Who knew I could lift weights. It was awesome to have my life back. Over time, my life stopped being about what was "impossible" and starting being about what was "possible". CAN'T became CAN. Now I'm doing P90X3. It's been almost a year since I've had a single symptom. I have no pain, no exhaustion, I take no medications, and I have no fibromyalgia symptoms. With hard work, nutrition, and exercise, we can ALL kick fibro out of our lives.

Keep doing what you're doing! I want every fibro warrior out there to be symptom free! It's all up to us. It CAN be done.

    Wendy
